Galfir Spanish School, Tenerife:
At Galfir Spanish School located in San Cristobal de La Laguna (west of Santa Cruz) on the island of Tenerife, Canary islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, south-west of Spain and north-west of Africa, we offer a truly wide range of Spanish courses for people with all kinds of needs and learning preferences. We provide a close student-teacher relationship thanks to the medium-to-small size of our school. Four different learning levels (Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) are provided to suit each student’s individual needs. Students are assessed via a level test on the first day of their course. Because of the large number of foreign students from diverse parts of the world that are drawn to our town’s university, we’re used to teaching students with diverse nationalities and different levels in Spanish.

Facilities:
A computer room with free internet access and a library filled with helpful books and magazines are always available for students. Our school also enjoys an indoor patio and a rooftop terrace where students can take in the sights of our city, get to know their classmates or simply take a relaxing break in the sun.

- Spanish Host Families:
We work with a number of Spanish families living in the La Laguna area who make their homes available to our students. Options include Half Board (breakfast and choice of lunch or dinner), Full Board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and breakfast only. In some cases, depending on availability, two students can book accommodation with the same family in individual or shared rooms.

All families have passed the school’s quality check and make an effort for students to feel at home and happy during their stay. Students can choose from family accommodation in the centre of La Laguna or in a residential area 10 minutes from the school by train or bus.

The residential area is surrounded by parks and offers a quiet, pleasant atmosphere with many facilities and things to do. An open sports centre in the area allows students to practice sports and other activities (there is a small fee for these activities).

- Shared Student Flats:
This option involves sharing a house or flat with other Galfir students. Students who will be studying with us for a whole academic year can also book accommodation with Spanish students, thereby involving themselves more fully in Spain’s culture.

Bed linen is provided, but students should bring their own towels. Flats are normally equipped with washing machines; if not, information on nearby laundry facilities will be provided. Most flats are located in the centre of La Laguna, at walking distance from the School.

Galfir offers a quality year-round program of cultural, social and sporting activities. Some of these activities are free of charge, while others are paid (prices are very affordable). Both cultural and open-air activities are offered.

Following are a few of the open-air activities we offer. Please note that the vast majority of them will be take place on the weekend:

* El Teide: The Teide is the highest mountain in Spain and the third-largest volcano in the world. A cable car provides transportation to its 3,715 meter-high summit, which offers lovely views of Tenerife and, on clear days, the other islands. For those interested in staying overnight, booking must be made a few days in advance at the Altavista lodging (there is a maximum stay of one night). Overnight stays are independent from the school-sponsored trip to El Teide’s summit.
* Loro Parque: This famous zoo, in Puerto de la Cruz, is the Canary Islands’ biggest tourist attraction and truly unique the world over.
* Masca: A beautiful, 400 metre-long virgin beach situated in an isolated area of Tenerife. It has black sand and very calm waters. Access is by ship or foot. Not recommended for people afraid of heights.
* Barranco del Infierno: A protected area located in Adeje, south of Tenerife, it is one of the most beautiful nature parks in Tenerife. The route concludes – after a winding passage through chestnut trees and the beautiful scenery of southern Tenerife – in an impressive 560 metre-high waterfall.
