Welcome to Ábaco, a Spanish Language Institute offering Spanish Courses for all levels and Spanish certification exam preparation. We are located in the beautiful city of Salamanca in western Spain. Our courses combine education, culture, exciting trips and mind-expanding experiences, the perfect combination for the language traveller. Some of our students come as private individuals while others are sent by universities, language schools, companies and even embassies. One of our proudest achievements is that more than 80% of our students come to Ábaco because former students, friends or colleagues have recommended us. Super Intensive Course
:
This programme is designed for students who wish to improve their knowledge of Spanish during a short stay in Spain. The biggest problem one will find in learning a new language is developing fluency; therefore, this course emphasises even more the communicative approach of our method.

The course is based on the Intensive Course but built on a 25-hour per week basis. We reinforce what we have previously learnt in the grammar class through practical exercises. Vocabulary and idiomatic expressions are analysed in order to gradually acquire and develop the necessary strategies to understand and communicate in Spanish.

D.E.L.E. Exam Preparation
:
The "Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera" or Spanish as a Foreign Language Diploma, is the only certificate for non-native speakers of Spanish officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture and the Instituto Cervantes, thus it is a very important document in terms of employment opportunities.

D.E.L.E. has four levels: Certificado Inicial de Español (C.I.E.), Diploma Básico de Español (D.B.E.) and diploma Superior de Español (D.S.E.). The Ministry of Education and Culture annually establishes exam dates and fees, and they normally take place in mid-May (C.I.E. and D.B.E.) and mid-November (D.S.E.)

The course runs for 10 or 20 hours a week. Each day, during the first two hours, we study the possible grammatical problems and their practical application adapted to the different levels of language knowledge. In the next two hours we cover the subjects of specific aspects of the exam: specialised vocabulary, writing skills, oral expression, listening and reading comprehension, debates on current issues, etc. We also review previous year's exams and students will have mock exams to check the study progress of each student.

For the Initial, you must reach an Intermediate level, for the Basic you must have an Advanced level, and for the Superior you must be fluent in Spanish. If you have an Elementary level now, in three months you can prepare the Initial. If your level is Intermediate, you have a very good chance of passing the Basic in three months' time. And if you are Advanced, you will be able to pass the Superior after three months of preparation.
