Online Study Skills Program:
Students begin the course by taking an assessment to evaluate their instructional needs. Based on the assessment, a narrative report describing their scores along with recommendations for improvement is generated. After completing the assessment, students work through the interactive instructional program at their own pace to master the study skills covered in the curriculum. Upon completion of the course, students take a post-test to evaluate their progress. Students have unlimited access to the course for six months and a tutor who monitors student progress for the first thirty days.
Our program uses a nationally recognized study skills curriculum in which students learn the following:
- Students learn to use effective study skills, how to organize an appropriate study place, and how to plan and manage their study time through the use of a Semester Calendar, Weekly Schedule, and Daily To Do List.
- Students learn to use seven strategies for remembering information found in their textbooks and heard in class lectures: repetition, acronyms, abbreviations, acronymic sentences, pegwords, keywords, and rhymes.
- Students learn to use the SQ5R strategy for reading and taking notes from textbooks. SQ5R includes the following steps: Survey, Question and wRite, Read and wRite, Remember and Review.
- Students learn to use the FLQ5R strategy for taking notes in class. FLQ5R includes the following steps: Format, Listen, Question and wRite, Revise, Reformat, Remember and Review.
- Students learn effective strategies for taking the five types of tests most frequently given by teachers: multiple-choice, true/false, matching, completion, and essay.
