The Executive MBA Program at the University of Tennessee is designed to provide in-depth management education for high-potential executives currently in, or moving into, senior management positions. The program is strongly focused on developing leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a global perspective.
Innovative Structure
The program is completed in just one challenging but rewarding year. Begin in January, graduate in December, with less time spent awa
y from work and home than in any other Executive MBA program. Rather than being designed around nights and/or weekends, the curriculum is delivered in an executive development format consisting of four two-week residence periods and fifteen distance learning sessions.
Four times during the year, students leave the demands of work and family behind for fourteen days to concentrate exclusively on learning. During this time of “high compression learning” they take classes, meet with faculty advisors and leadership development coaches, and work in teams with peers to carry out assignments and projects. During these residence periods they also spend time getting to know their classmates and faculty, continuing the education advantages of the residence period structure well beyond the classroom.
During the international residence period, a global business seminar is held in two markets which are attracting significant foreign business investment. The destinations typically rotate among Asia, South or Central America, and Eastern Europe. Students obtain first-hand insights into issues affecting the global business environment.
Integrated Curriculum
The one year program has an integrated, lockstep design. All students begin and proceed through the program at the same time. They remain with this group of classmates throughout the program, providing continuity and invaluable mutual support.
Unlike traditional MBA programs, in the Executive MBA there are no electives or subject-specific courses. Program faculty address real-world problems from multiple perspectives. Rather than a course in accounting followed by a separate course in management, UT’s holistic EMBA Program integrates all business disciplines by focusing them on a common business challenge—the executive’s. The curriculum integrates all core business disciplines into one holistic set of learning experiences known as the Executive Core.
Applied Learning
In this program, return on investment begins on day one. Assignments are tied directly to each student’s organization and industry, and involve designing and executing strategic initiatives to move that organization forward.
