CERTESL is an award-winning independent study program designed and delivered by the Centre for Continuing & Distance Education (CCDE) at Saskatoon's University of Saskatchewan, a respected presence in distance education and online learning. It is a distance-delivered university-based ESL/EFL/ESD teacher training program that can be taken from anywhere in the world. Some courses may be taken on campus. Completers of the on-campus Summer TEFL Intensive at the University of Saskatchewan. may be eligible for transfer credit and an application bursary.

CERTESL (Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language)
This six course, 250-hour teacher training program will give you the knowledge and credentials you need to succeed in the competitive Canadian and International TESOL field. Whether you want to make English teaching your new career, improve your qualifications for accreditation or advancement in teaching ESL or EFL, or just be well-prepared for a great overseas adventure, CERTESL can help you reach your goal.

CERTESL is an 18 credit program recognized for accreditation by TESL Canada, SCENES and TESL Ontario (note that TESL Ontario accreditation requires a total of 300 hours which may be completed via one additional CERTESL course and supplemental practicum hours).

CERTESL lets you choose courses that will train you to teach in ESL, EFL or ESD settings, depending on your own career or travel plans. CERTESL courses will teach you about the ideas and approaches that underpin effective communicative language teaching; ESL/EFL learner needs assessment and evaluation; TESL/TEFL lesson planning; selection and development of TESL/TEFL materials; and English grammar and phonology. our Supervised Practicum in TESL/TEFL will let you master the skills needed by successful English language instructors as you work with ESL/EFL classes and qualified teachers either in your home community or at the beautiful University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon, Canada. If you are already an experienced teacher, you may choose the Professional Project option which will let you conduct TESL research or prepare TESL curriculum materials that will help you in your own professional setting.
