Hess Educational Organization has been providing educational excellences for over 25 years for learners of all ages and currently employs over 500 TEFL teachers. Hess has recently opened our first teacher training and recruitment centre, Hess Education Canada Ltd., in Vancouver at 179 West Broadway, across from MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op). We mainly recruit teachers who acquire the qualities we are looking for to teach at our English schools in different cities throughout Taiwan. We offer a 60-hour intensive TEFL Certificate course designed by our teachers who have had the knowledge and experience in education for more than 20 years. Students who complete the course will have a chance to apply to work for Hess in Taiwan.

TEFL Certificate Course:
This 60 hour intensive course is designed to teach you how to teach English as a foreign language. Theory is blended with practical use to give you the skills you need to be an effective teacher. Using the communicative approach, you will learn classroom management strategies, the differences between the adult and child learner, multiple intelligence theory and how to create lesson plans that take into account different learning styles.

You will learn how to supplement your lessons by using games, art, songs and other resources. You will also be prepared for culture shock and learn how to write a résumé and cover letter for jobs overseas and what to look for in a contract.

Students enrolled in the Hess Canada TEFL program are expected to do all assigned readings and homework, participate in class, present lesson plans and instruct assigned teaching demonstrations. At the end of the course, the student will have a list of language acquisition activities which s/he knows how to use and adapt for different levels and situations and lesson-plans for a variety of topics.

Method of Instruction:  We believe the best way to learn is to do. To help make you the best teacher possible we will provide you with many opportunities to put into practice what we teach.

Attendance Policy:  As this is an intensive course, 90% attendance is required.

Mandarin Lessons:
Our Mandarin lessons are designed for absolute beginners who are enthusiastic about Chinese language and culture. it's not only gonna be a start for a whole new experience, but also a foot into a new world without borders. Either it's for your leisure time or business, this is where you should start!

The course is based on Pin-Yin, a phonetic system used in most of China and countries in Asia. You will learn how to speak, write and read in no time. Our instructors have years of experience in teaching Mandarin and classes are taught in interactive ways that you will enjoy every minute of it.
