CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults:CELTA ‐ Cambridge ESOL Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults, is the most widely recognised initial professional qualification. The course provides initial training in English Language Teaching to Adults but will also suit those who are already in the profession but who have no formal or practical qualification.

Each course is approved by University of Cambridge ESOL and satisfies the CELTA regulations and requirements that ensure that courses:

- are delivered by Cambridge ESOL‐approved staff with the relevant experience and training;
- provide tutorial guidance, support and feedback for all candidates, for both teaching practice and written work;
- include a minimum of 120 hours contact with course tutors including individual tutorials;
- provide 6 hours directed observation of experienced teachers and 6 hours assessed teaching practice;
- are delivered in approved premises and with full access to the required resources;
- maintain and provide course records and provide candidate records;
- observe local laws regarding staff employment and copyright;
- provide candidates with full information regarding candidate enquiries on results and complaints procedure.

Syllabus
The syllabus covers the following areas:
- techniques for developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills;
- presenting and practising new language;
- classroom management;
- lesson planning;
- practical awareness of language learning and processing;
- language forms and meanings and variations in language styles.

Applicants
Applicants must have a good standard of education equivalent to that required to enter university or college, have a standard of English equal to that of an educated native speaker and be at least 20 years of age.Applicants are accepted on completion of a successful interview. Telephone interviews can be arranged for candidates living outside Italy.


DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults):DELTA (University of Cambridge ESOL Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults), is intended for practising and experienced English language teachers and provides preparation for both the practical and written examinations. As from September 2008 Cambridge ESOL has introduced the modular DELTA. The aims of the course are to provide in-service training for the Module One examination, Module Two teaching practice and Module Three extended assignment and to assist you in the development of your capacities as a teacher. The course balances theory and practice and you will be encouraged to build on your experience as well as to learn from the experience and knowledge of others. The modular framework aims to provide an accessible professional development programme with flexible entry points. Candidates may choose to do any or all of the modules and have the opportunity to focus on a specialist area of teaching in Modules Two and Three. Each module is assessed independently and is separately certificated. Achievement of a Pass in all three modules confers the status of a full Delta qualification.

Summary of Modules

- Module One focuses on your understanding of the background to teaching and learning in a range of contexts. It is tested by one exam taken as two one and a half hour papers on the first Wednesdays of June and December.

- Module Two is about Practical Teaching. It focuses on your awareness and expertise in professional practice in a range of contexts and is tested by 5 practical assignments that involve written work and observation by a tutor of your teaching on a number of occasions. The lessons you teach are with specially arranged classes at our centre.

- Module Three focuses on a chosen specialisation and includes a focus on syllabus design, testing and assessment. It is tested by an extended written assignment which is submitted for assessment.

Applicants should have an initial ELT/TESOL/TEFL qualification, such as CELTA, two years’ wide-ranging teaching experience with large classes and preferably be currently teaching classes in a language school.

Applicants are accepted on the completion of a successful interview.


CELTYL (Extension Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners:The Cambridge ESOL Young Learners Extension Certificate is intended for CELTA qualified teachers who are involved in teaching English to young learners or who would like some formal training in this area.

Organisation
Each course is approved by Cambridge ESOL and satisfies the specific regulations and requirements that ensure that courses:

- are delivered by Cambridge ESOL‐ approved staff with the relevant experience and training;
- provide tutorial guidance, support and feedback for all candidates, for both teaching practice and written work;
- include a minimum of 50 hours contact with course tutors including assessed teaching practice and directed observation of experienced teachers, as specified in the regulations for the specific scheme;
- are delivered in approved premises and with full access to the required resources;
- maintain and provide course records and provide candidate records;
- observe local laws regarding staff employment and copyright;
- provide candidates with full information regarding candidate enquiries on results and complaints procedure.

Syllabus
The course includes teaching practice with groups of children aged eight to thirteen, assisted lesson planning and feedback on teaching practice. The following topics are included in the seminars:

differences between adult and younger learners;
how children learn;
teaching lexis;
accuracy and fluency;
lesson planning;
creative games;
topic‐based grammar lessons;
teacher/student produced materials and adapting published materials;
project work;
teenagers and very young learners;
discipline and classroom management;
videos and songs.

Applicants
In order to obtain the CELTYL Extension Qualification, applicants should have passed the CELTA, although it is not necessary to have experience of teaching younger learners. Applicants must provide three character references, one of which must be from their current or recent employer.Applicants are accepted on the completion of a successful interview.
