ELS Seattle CELTA Certification:
ELS Seattle offers a four-week Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) course at our school in the trendy Capitol Hill district of Seattle in Washington State. CELTA is an initial certification for people with little or no previous teaching experience. Because it is awarded by Cambridge ESOL, part of the world-famous University of Cambridge, you can rely upon its quality and recognition. It can open a new world of exhilarating teaching opportunities for you.
ELS Seattle is one of just nine CELTA certificate program locations in the USA, one of three on the West Coast and the only location in the Pacific Northwest – right in the heart of downtown Seattle.
CELTA Curriculum:
The CELTA program is a 4-week course, with 120 contact hours. There are also an additional 80 learning hours devoted to pre-course preparation and tasks, on course reading and research, assignment writing, lesson preparation and record keeping.
Who Should Consider CELTA?
CELTA is appropriate for a wide range of people. It is the ideal qualification for those who want to start English language teaching anywhere in the world. It is also suitable for people who want a career break or change and for those already teaching English who have no formal qualifications. You do not have to be a native English speaker to enroll in the CELTA course. Demonstrate English proficiency and you can be considered for admission.
Admission Requirements:
- Be at least 20 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Pass pre-course language evaluation task and a 60-minute interview
- Have competency in both written and spoken English. Non-native English speakers applying must submit a TOEFL® score of 79 or IELTSTM band 6.5. These requirements may be waived at the discretion of the CELTA Director based on the candidate’s oral interview.
- Have the potential to develop necessary skills to become an effective teacher.
