5-week intensive TEFL / TESL / TESOL Certificate course
The course curriculum is based on humanistic, experiential and progressive teaching methods. It provides training in how to teach speaking, listening, reading, writing TESOL / TEFL Coursesand grammar as well as culture. The course begins with a look at second language acquisition through the experience of being a learner. Participants then examine specific teaching areas each day, which they then apply in their practice teaching to students. Trainers and participants together analyse the lessons that participants develop and teach. Participants are taught not only the basics and practicalities of teaching English, but also how to develop reflection skills. With these reflection skills, our graduates gain an important tool to use in learning and improving long after the course is over.

By the end of the course each participant will be able to plan, teach and evaluate ESOL lessons.

This is reached through four major components of the course:

1. Daily Workshops
2. Lesson Planning
3. Practice Teaching / Feedback
4. Assignments

Daily Workshops focus on different Modules. Day One's Module is the Learning Process. Day Two looks more at Learning and introduces the Teaching and Groupwork Modules. Thereafter, the Learning and Teaching Modules make up a part of every day through the final course day, Day 20, while the Groupwork Module makes up a part of every day through day 19. In addition, each day from Day 5 on includes one or two other Modules: Speaking, Listening, Grammar, Reading and Writing. Other areas covered include Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Error Correction, Using Songs in the Classroom, Classroom Management and Culture Awareness. Approximately halfway through the course a grammar consultation, referred to as the Grammar Conference, is held. In the final week of the course a Special Topics Seminar is held covering areas such as Young Learners, English for Special Purposes, Business English, etc.

Lesson Planning and Practice Teaching
activities begin at the start of of week two. They are then part of the daily activities of each subsequent Monday through Thursday. Each participant receives from 10 to 20 hours of trainer supported lesson planning time, according to his or her need. Approximately 20 hours are spent in practice-teaching classrooms. This is time spent practice-teaching to students as well observing peers practice-teaching. Participants may practice-teach anywhere from 5 to 8 lessons, depending on different variables, such as the number of participants in a course. In addition to the 20 hours spent in practice-teaching classrooms, time is spent in feedback with participants and trainers after each teaching-practice session. Time spent in feedback totals at least 10 hours. Outside of the teaching-practice sessions, there are times when participants teach "mock" lessons to their peers for additional practice.

Assignments include prepared lesson plans for each teaching practice lesson taught, written essays, a language analysis paper as well as reading and commenting on various articles from the field of ESOL.
