We run the CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching for Adults) course and are accredited by the University of Cambridge. Course Content
There are five ‘units’ of learning in the Teaching House CELTA.
- Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context: educational backgrounds and traditions of learners, motivation, differing learning styles, etc.
- Language analysis and awareness: how English works, basic concepts and terms used to describe form and meaning of grammar, vocabulary and phonology; how to plan and teach grammar, vocabulary and functions lessons
- Language skills: how to teach reading, writing, listening & speaking
- Planning and resources for different teaching contexts: selecting and adapting materials for learning activities and tasks; working with textbooks and supplementary materials; creating and designing materials and activities
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism: classroom management, presence and control, monitoring and correction of learners; self assessment of strengths and weaknesses, working as teacher, colleague, employer
