Trinity certTESOL / CELTA Course Content and Schedule
Your course tutors will give out a detailed schedule of assignments and course work at the start of the course. There is ample planning time with the tutors to review work and help prepare lessons. By the end of week three, trainees are preparing reasonably independently, consulting the trainers only when necessary. As a teacher trainee you will work in teaching groups, sharing the teaching practice (TP) sessions and working together closely so that the sessions are coherent and productive for the English students. TP begins early in the course so you begin to feel comfortable and confident with teaching groups of learners. From the beginning, you have the opportunity to teach 30-minute lessons and then increase to 45 minutes, and finally 60 minutes, observed and unobserved.

The course is divided into 3 main areas:

I. Methodology Input
The Methodology inputs will present a variety of techniques for introducing and practicing new language; raising students' interest and participation; for encouraging accurate and fluent speech; setting language in realistic contexts; developing listening, writing and reading skills; lesson planning, using course books and authentic material; checking students' understanding and providing feedback; testing; and using songs, games, video, computers etc.

II. Language Awareness
The Language Analysis sessions are intended to develop an ability to analyze language from the point of view of what students need to know about it, i.e. techniques for clarifying meaning, usage and pronunciation. Topics covered include the tense system of English; the phonemic chart and the sounds of English; conditional sentences; expressing future meanings; modal verbs; stress and intonation; the correction of pronunciation errors and features of connected speech.

III. Teaching Practice (TP)
Teaching techniques are practiced by the course participants in regular teaching practice sessions. Every candidate is required to complete a minimum of six hours observed teaching with classes of adult learners. In addition s/he will observe qualified teachers with live classes for a minimum of eight hours. After TP, our feedback session follows, either immediately or on the following day. In feedback the TP group and the tutor discuss the lessons, which took place during TP. At the end of each feedback session, written feedback from the tutor is given to each candidate who taught.

By the end of the course, trainees are fully prepared with the essentials of teaching English, along with a broad range of effective teaching techniques and classroom management skills.
