TEFL Teacher Certification in Pennsylvania & Ecuador

Juniata College:
The TEFL Certificate Program is held at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and the University of Otavalo, Ecuador. Participants in the program will experience classroom instruction, teaching practice and cultural learning as they complete the six courses of the TESL certificate.

An international field-based module, conducted at a partner university in Ecuador in the summer, will allow teachers to apply ESL teaching strategies, experience a multicultural and second language environment, and analyze the challenges that linguistically diverse ESL students may face in U.S. classrooms. Principles of sheltered English instruction are offered using the S.I.O.P. model. Competency in a second language is not required to enter the program as all instruction for teachers is offered in English.

ESL Certificate Program: The program will begin with on-line instruction and two weekend courses in early spring at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. In mid-June, teachers travel to Ecuador for the three week intensive instructional module at the University of Otavalo, located in a small community in the Andean highlands.
