International TEFL Academy is an ESL teacher training organization that offers internationally accredited and recognized TEFL / TESOL certification courses in Canada and world-wide. We also offer a 170-hour online TEFL / TESOL program. We are centrally located in downtown Toronto (Southern Ontario), within walking distance of the Wellesley subway station, the famous Eaton's Center and a quick 10 minutes from the CN Tower via subway. The historic Blake Mansion in the downtown centre of Toronto serves as the home of our Toronto TEFL school. The school also offers English language courses to local residents along with many international students visiting the country for the purpose of English immersion. Our TEFL training incorporates hands-on student teaching (practicum) with these English language students.

TEFL / TESOL Training Courses:
TEFL classes incorporate a full day of classroom work, practice teaching, group discussion and role-playing. An immersion method is followed in which students develop their teaching skills and knowledge of grammar. This is achieved through morning input sessions and evening practical teaching. The emphasis is on continual assessment, and participants are expected to address the issues raised from previous feedback in their future lessons.

- Full-time TEFL course (5 weeks): 
The full-time TEFL course is a very intense 5 week program. (Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm for 4 weeks for classroom time). We recommend that students who enroll in this program do not have any other work or personal commitments outside the course. Often times outside work must be completed in order to be successful in this program.

The course is designed to achieve a balance between practical and theoretical learning. Students will have the opportunity to gain practice teaching throughout the program and will be able to further observe our ESL classes during the day.

- Toronto Part-time TEFL course (10 weeks): 
The 10 week part-time program is a good option for those who are currently engaged in work or personal commitments. (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 9:30pm for 10 weeks). Although it is a part-time, there is still homework to be completed during these 10 weeks. The part-time program follows the same syllabus as the 5 week schedule. You will learn all the skills necessary to prepare lessons and conduct an English class at any level- and under a variety of conditions- quickly and effectively.

- Practicum:  This is completed outside of the course time. Practicum classes will be Monday to Thursday evenings, plus possibly some Saturdays. Practicum begins in week 3 of the program and extends outside of the 10 weeks of study.

- Observation:  75% of the observation tasks are completed within the in class sessions and 25% is completed outside of class either during the day or through video

Also:  Various extra-curricular activities are offered.

- Online TEFL / TESOL Certification Course (170-Hours):
This is a fully interactive course with 20 other students that takes approximately 11 weeks to complete. It consists of 150 class hours and 20 hours of teaching practice. It is the same curriculum, practicum (student teaching practice), homework and professional accreditations and certification used in our international onsite TEFL courses. The practicum of 20 hours will be conducted at an ESL classroom in your town.

An additional 30-Hour Business Professional & Young Learner module is available as an optional add-on to the main course for a total TEFL / TESOL certification of 200 hours.
