TEFL / TESOL Certificate Program:

Berkeley LTC is proud to offer the World Learning SIT certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages. (This is also often referred to as ESL, EFL, TESL, TEFL, ESOL, and English language teaching). Our internationally recognized certificate is 130 hours and provides participants with professional knowledge and skills as well as tools for their own reflection and growth as teachers.

The course provides practical training through teaching demonstrations, lesson planning and analysis, and practice teaching and feedback. Participants develop skills in teaching, speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and culture. The course begins with a brief look at second language acquisition through the experience of being a learner. Participants then examine specific teaching areas each day, which they apply in their daily practice teaching of adult ESOL learners (6 hours total). Participants gain skills in analysis through examining their lessons with SIT teacher trainers. All trainers have a minimum of five years of teaching experience, an MA TESOL or equivalent, and have gone through a rigorous program through SIT to become licensed trainers.

The innovative course curriculum was designed by SIT faculty, and is based on the ideas experiential learning, building reflective skills and developing intercultural understanding.

Our course provides:

* An experiential hands-on approach. Theory comes from practice.
* 130 hours of instruction including workshops, 6 hours of teaching practice with real students, and feedback with trainers licensed by the School for International Training (SIT).
* An in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of teaching English as well as a solid set of teaching skills.
* A foundation in reflective practice that will enable you to continue growing as a teacher.
