r of Science in Social Work degree program offered by the NYU Silver School of Social Work teaches you how to counsel and serve people within the client’s context – social, economic, and cultural – whether you are helping a homeless teen mother, a child in foster care, a developmentally challenged adolescent or an isolated elderly person. Classes are small, allowing you to study and train in a supportive, nurturing community environment.
Course Content:
Of the 57 credits needed to complete the social work major, 49 must be earned from the courses described below.

The remaining 8 credits in the social work major are electives and can include among others:

Social Work Experience:
Through a program of more than 600 hours of on-site field learning in agencies throughout the New York metro area, undergraduates have the kind of social work experience usually found only at the graduate level. Students have the opportunity to learn social work within a global perspective, including work with refugees, immigrant populations, and optional study abroad trips.
Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree Program:
The NYU School of Social Work is the only graduate school in the NYC metropolitan area that exclusively focuses its energy and resources on preparing clinical social work professionals. Our MSW program is distinctive for its strong focus on teaching clinical skills. Our faculty will give you the tools for a career as a reflective, relationship-centered clinical social work professional.
All of our campus-based programs -- in Greenwich Village, Rockland, Westchester and on Staten Island -- offer the same clinically-focused, teaching centered environment for your education as a professional.
Program Duration:
The Master of Social Work degree program takes two years to complete. A 16 month accelerated program is also available to applicants with prior social work or related experience. Other study options are offered for working professionals or those with previous qualifications.
