Iuss Institute For Advanced Study, Pavia:
Founded in 1997, the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia (IUSS), a city offering a very special and unique environment due to its "historical colleges", due to the excellent level of the activities promoted and carried out. In 2005 the Institute was recognized by the Ministry of Education, University and Research as a "Scuola Superiore ad ordinamento speciale". Before, this recognition was only awarded to three other Schools devoted to Higher Education in Italy: Scuola Normale di Pisa, Scuola Superiore Sant´Anna and SISSA in Trieste.

Undergraduate courses
IUSS undergraduate Courses are open, on a merit base, to the most promising students of the University of Pavia, selected through a national competition.
The undergraduate Courses offer to IUSS students additional classes of high quality education, with an interdisciplinary approach. In this way students follow both University of Pavia and IUSS Classes wich are conceived to complete in a coherent manner the educational programmes offered by the nine faculties of the Unviersity.
The IUSS courses are distributed in four classes of studies:
- Human Sciences
- Social Sciences
- Science and Technologies
- Biomedical Sciences
Students belong to four different Classes, depending on the faculty they are attending.
The scientific and didactic guidance is guaranteed by the Courses Coordinator, the didactic and scientific Committees
. The didactic Committee is composed by the Coordinator and a students' delegate, and by the Directors of the four Classes. The scientific Committee is composed by the Deans of Pavia’s University Faculties and, for each Class, by three eminent scholars indicated by the Faculties.
- Humanities Class: All students attending literature and philosophy faculties belong to this class.
- Social Sciences Class: All students attending Economics, Law and Political Science faculties belong to this class.
- Sciences and Technologies Class: All students attending Engineering and Sciences faculties belong to this class.
- Biomedical Sciences Class: All students attending Pharmacy, Medicine and Surgery faculties belong to this class.
Master degrees
We offer II Level University Master degrees which are generally fully taught in English and have a strong International Vocation; Our masters provide the best academic background and contact wit
h the business world, in very different fields. Our interdisciplinary and hands-on approach allows our students to be succesful in their future careers. Our Masters foresee a classroom chapter, held in English, and an in-company internship which generally lasts 3/6 months. They are fulltime programs and cover a 12 months period at the end of which successful students receive a II level University Master Degree according to the Bologna process (60 ECTS). The faculty is composed of top professors and companies guest speakers.
Our interdisciplinary approach allows us to prepare people able to face complexity in the most diverse fields and to therefore successfully proceed in a dynamic career achieving their goals and personal satisfaction. We are looking for a selected group of promising young graduates, willing to broaden their perspectives in a challenging environment. Admissions are based on the curriculum and an interview. Scholarships are awarded on a merit base and can cover the tuition and/or Colleges accommodation fees.

PhD degrees
PhD degrees provide an interdisciplinary point of view and exposure to cutting edge research.
The Instute of Advanced Study of Pavia hosts three Phd programmes, in cooperation with the University of Pavia.
