University of Munich; IUCM:
The University of Munich’s International Club (Internationaler Universitätsclub München - IUCM) is an intiative of former students of the LMU since 1995 in cooperation with the Office of International Affairs of the LMU. The goal is to inform young, foreign undergraduate and graduate students about life studying at the LMU and to help make study abroad a reality for these students. Upon arrival in Munich, we provide students with guidance and support throughout their time of study. A network of LMU alumni, who have studied or reside abroad , encourage that contact be maintained so that the opportunity for further exchanges will be available.

German courses
The IUCM offer German courses for LMU students during their studies at the University of Munich.

These courses include the following:

- Basic / Intermediate Level
The basic level course is designed for those students with either no prior knowledge of German or those with a very basic understaUniversities / Graduate Schoolsnding of the language.

Alternatively, there is also an intermediate level course offered which is focussed at those students who already possess a good grasp of German and are looking to improve and build upon this.

- Advanced Level
This advanced level course is aimed at those students who already have a very good understanding of the German language.

Contents of the course
- Conversation Skills
- German Grammar (both the revision and progression of)
- Writing skills, thus enabling students to both argue and discuss within the relevant cultural, scientific and political contexts.
- The development of reading skills, through the analysis of newspaper articles, as well as other literary and official texts such as letters/e-mails and lectures. In addition, these readings shall be complemented by other summaries of texts, other critical theories and arguments.
- Key phrases needed in everyday life in Germany, as well as for the studies and many of the practical exercises undertaken.

Participants
The target group consists of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate international students as well as scientists at the LMU. A maximum of 18 participants is permitted within each course, whilst a minimum number of 12 students per course is also enforced.

Summer German Language CUniversities / Graduate Schoolsourse
The summer language course is organized by the International University Club of Munich (IUCM) in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs of Munich’s Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU).

The University has long been recognized as a centre of excellence for the study and teaching of German as a foreign languages. Language teaching at the Summer German Language course in Munich is proficiency-based and aims to develop four basic skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening.

Each course is designed to teach the language within its academic, cultural and social context, so that students deepen their knowledge of Germany, whilst simultaneously developing their language skills. Enthusiastic class participation is expected.

Language courses will be supplemented by a variety of activities such as lectures, films and excursions to points of local cultural significance. Tutors shall also participate in the extra-curricular activities and are available for consultation throughout.

Summer Academies
- European Studies / Vienna - Munich - Prague
This 5 week summer academy analyzes the historical development, the economic, societal and political dimensions of the European integration project.

- Summer School Occupational Health
The overall objective of this program is to train physicians currently working or being trained in occupational health in low and middle income countries.

- Amgen Scholars: From Molecules to Behavior
Possible research topics for students are within the fields of biochemistry, structural-, molecular-, cell- and developmental biology, cellular and organismic neurobiology, computational neuroscience, and physiological sciences.

- NIM Program: Nano Science
The Nanosystems Initiative Munich (NIM) invites students with strong background in natural sciences or engineering to join for 8 weeks compelling and demanding nanotechnology research.

- MUST Program: German and European Law
The Faculty of Law offers a course for lawyers and law students from abroad. The course provides an in-depth introduction to German and European law.

- MSC Encore: Exploring New Media in Venice / Munich
Participants will study media, technology, management, infomatics, theory and communication sciences.

- Literature: Fiction and Reality
