Want to know what experienced travellers believe to be the 10 top Europe travel destinations (cities, historical sites, you name it!). I am travelling from New Zealand on a budget and have to mostly travel by train around Europe? Are there many dirt cheap airlines that I can book last minute?. Will start in London so I guess that leaves 9 other top destinations and must see/do experiences.
Want to see Northern, Eastern Europe and Mediterranean, Southern Europe as well of course. Want to get a real picture in 3 months if possible. Thanks to anyone who has some good ideas.

If you want to visit an "exotic" country, the best place to go to is Ukraine. Great cuisine and friendly people. My impressions are the best!
Here are some tips about where to stay. i used this service and I was very satisfied with it:

They're great!

My list:
- Barcelona or Rome for great city experiences
- Italy or Czech Republic for historic sites
- Croatia or Greece for Mediterranean beaches
- Austria or Montenegro for mountains (Norway also has stunning landscapes, but also very high prices)
- Finland or Sweden for northern wilderness - Albania or Macedonia for off the beaten path

If you're not sure about where to go, try using a destination search engine such as www.happytellus.com. It should give u some suggestions based on your own preferations.

And yes, there are plenty of budget airlines available, but their prices are normally cheapest when NOT booked last minute.

Have fun!

I'd prefer this list (although not in order):
Paris - want to visit eiffel tower; it's also the best place for a honeymoon.
Greece - want to check out their museums and temples. Beaches and beautiful cities!
Austria - for adventures and hikes.
Italy - food!
Istanbul - to learn history.

Everyone of us has its own reason for spending our vacation. Whatever reason it is, it's always great to have fun on our vacation.

If you are planning for a vacation, this site might help you: http://plazatravel.com/
You can choose vacation packages in europe. They will all manage everything from destinations and accommodations. You can check itineraries of the vacation packages so you can choose which ones suit your preference. Goodluck!

Well, Paris, Greece sounds like fun, but have you ever been to the Baltic States. I have read that they are often called undiscovered secrets of Europe. If you are heading east, start with Lithuania; move on to Latvia and then Estonia.

Lithuania is gorgeous place known for its great number of lakes. As for city life, visit Vilnius - the city noted for its remarkable architecture and cultural life. What is entrancing about the architecture of Vilnius is the variety of styles which collide, for instance, baroque, classicism and gothic which prevails in the Old Town.

Once in Latvia start with the capital Riga and take a stroll around marvellous Art Nuevo streets. Besides Riga is a cultural centre of Latvia as it hosts numerous music, film and art festival. Whenever you’re in Latvia, there is always something going on. For a quick history lesson, drop by the museums or art galleries. For more info, check this guide. http://www.way2latvia.com/ I found it rather useful.

As for Estonia, I just loved Tallinn and Saaremaa islands. It’s gorgeous, seriously breathe taking. I was so surprised by the Baltic States.

My European favorites include a few destinations in Italy - specifically, Lake Como area, Cinque Terre and Tuscany. Other top European destinations include Copenhagen and Stockholm, the Swiss Alps (particularly by the Eiger there is a charming village) and possibly French Riviera on the Spanish side.

Everything depends on how much money you want to spend.
e.g.
I was in Poland one year ago. I came in Krakow by plane (in Balice airport). This price depends on the airline.
But when I came to Krakow and exchanged money for PLN, everything was cheaper than in Western Europe:, food, alkochol, communication and entertainment. e.g. You can check prices for transport from the airport (http://krakowdirect.com)
Something about my trip:
I explored the area of Krakow. Krakow is the beautiful city in southern Poland. I saw the Wawel and Old Town. J had a small room with a view of the castle. People there are very kind and helpful, you can speak English with almost every people.
For example I met some girl who showed me a special place: Zakrzówek, there is a lake and if you want you can swim there. The water is very deep you can jump if you like it
I had also been in Auschwitz. Is the most terrible place if I ever seen before.

I thing, Poland is good place for a vacation. Good and cheap.

If you have money, you can go to any place you want and afford luxurious hotels for your stay. The best place for vacation in Europe according to me is Paris. I love this country. Anybody who is approaching a new place should visit Maps2Anywhere first. It is a website which helps you plan your journey.
