Hello, I am looking for information from other visitors to this site on what the best education games for kids are?

I have 2 kids Jacob (8) and Aaron (5) and currently my problem is that the children don't play enough together and seem to get bored easily.

I would like to find a family oriented, interactive game that my boys will enjoy playing together. If the game is fun and challenging enough I think they will enjoy spending quality family time together.

All replies are appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,
Kids learn a huge amount from shared experiences such as educational games that are played in class that can also be played at home. Check out with the teacher which subject your child enjoys at school or could do a with a boost at home. There are maths, english, science, ict and even handwriting games that follow the curriculum. As kids retain more from practicing the games than they do from just listening to the teacher you would really helping, and they are great fun.

Hi Evelyn,
The best educational games for children I've ever seen have been developed by the "Dolphy Games" company, and they will also speak to Jacob and Aaron using their own names! They'll both love it, you must see this one:

Hi Evelyn,

I have some ideas for you. Sometimes siblings like to be in competition with each other and in some games you can play that up while also teaching them something. The game, Globetrot, is good for teaching kids geography and world knowledge trivia. The only problem is you need to have a facebook account, because the game is on facebook. But you don't have to create one for every child! You can use your own account and each child can record their individual scores and compare them when they take quizzes. This game also allows you to collect postcards from around the world which is fun. I'll try to include the link here: http://apps.facebook.com/globetrotfamily

The next thought I had for you was to look into games by Montessori and Nature's Classroom. These places tend to use a bit more alternative types of education and have a lot of games that involve kinesthetic activity (if you think that may be helpful).

I wish you the best of luck!

I may be a biased source but the game I'm working on might work well for you :) http://mathbreakers.com

I've found that when kids work together to solve the puzzles in the game they end up teaching each other math and logic. Let us know what you think.

Hello Evelyn,

I am a teacher and a Mom!

I wrote an article on my blog that you may find interesting:

http://leapfrogpadreview.com/2013/11/15/demonstrating-the-leappad-ultra-kids-learning-tablet/

You will see that two children are able to play a game on these Leappad Ultra Tablets, like an IPad, that is educational and interactive.

The way it works is the kids have to each answer a math question on their own individual level and then they get to race each other. What is great about that is the both kids do not have to be on the same academic level.

I think these games are great and kids love them.

I hope you find this info a help!

Hi Evelyn,

Science games and toys are very popular, most of them come with a fact sheet, so you can learn about the science behind the toy. Also Math games are very popular, Math Magic, Math Science to name a couple.

Hello,

With all the options, there are really a lot of great choices out there. If you child is able to handle technology, either the Innotab or Leappad Ultra are really great, as they are customizable to your child's needs.

I found this site very helpful:

http://leapfrogpadreview.com/

On that site, they do a pretty good job summing up the pros and cons of each type of tablet, and I found that the reviews of the toys were pretty comprehensive.

I bought the Leappad 2, but I probably should have gotten the ultra, due to the WiFi. I wish I saw the review before I bought the tablet I bought. Since the Leappad 2 uses batteries, you spend a lot on batteries, where the Leappad 2 power or ultra have rechargeable packs.

Good Luck.

-Doug.

Hi Evelyn,

most 'educational' games have the exact problem you described - they are boring. They are a few good games on the market and especially those who support a multiplayer mode are interesting for your case. One example for your boys to play together is
Minecraft (if they have their own computers), see http://www.gamesformychildren.com/minecraft/
or Crazy Machines (if played on one computer), see http://www.gamesformychildren.com/crazy-machines/

I'm collecting these kind of games and reviewing them on my website, check out www.gamesformychildren.com

Cheers
Jacek
