As an Assistant Chief Engineer – Data Center, you will support the reliability, safety, and lifecycle performance of mission-critical facility systems within hyperscale data centers. In this role, you will apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex issues, support critical events, and contribute to upgrades, standards, and operational improvements that protect uptime.
Key Responsibilities- Lead troubleshooting, incident investigations, and root cause analysis for complex or recurring issues affecting critical facility systems
- Support and enhance standards, procedures, and operational practices across electrical, mechanical, cooling, controls, and supporting infrastructure
- Provide technical input for upgrades, retrofits, expansions, major maintenance, and commissioning activities
- Partner with site operations teams to improve maintainability, safe execution of work, and documentation quality (procedures, drawings, one-lines, settings, test plans)
- Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent and reliable operational outcomes
- Review technical documentation to maintain execution consistency and technical quality
- Mentor junior technicians and help strengthen troubleshooting capability and operational discipline
- Strong experience with mission-critical facility systems in data centers, industrial environments, utilities, healthcare, manufacturing, or similar high-availability settings
- Solid understanding of at least one major infrastructure domain (electrical distribution, mechanical cooling, controls, or integrated facility operations)
- Proven ability to support complex technical work and contribute to critical operational decisions
- Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Strong technical judgment in high-risk or time-sensitive situations
- Clear communication of technical risks and solutions to different audiences
- Ability to influence outcomes through technical standards and operational alignment
- Experience with critical infrastructure systems such as switch gear, UPS, generators, cooling systems, BMS/EPMS, or controls platforms
- Experience reviewing procedures, commissioning plans, maintenance strategies, and incident response documentation
- Ability to mentor and support development of junior team members
- Electrical, HVAC, or mechanical trade certification preferred
- Strong safety background; relevant safety training preferred
- Refrigerant handling certification preferred where applicable
- OEM or manufacturer training on power, cooling, or control systems is a plus
- Experience with major equipment platforms or controls systems is a plus
This role supports 24/7 operations where uptime is critical. Regular attendance and flexibility for shift schedules are required. The position involves walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 39 pounds independently, with team lifts for heavier loads. Work is performed in an industrial environment with a focus on safe execution at all times.
