Job Summary
With a commitment to patient‑ and family‑centered care, the professional nurse uses the nursing process to address the physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs of diverse patients served by Jefferson Health. The nurse develops nursing plans with patients and their designated care partners to effectively address individualized needs and priorities, consistent with cultural beliefs and values.
Responsibilities- Interact consistently with co‑workers, patients, families, and other staff in a manner reflecting Jefferson’s values.
- Integrate Evidence‑Based Practice, clinical expertise, patient and family preferences, and cultural beliefs and values to deliver optimal healthcare.
- Partner with patients, families, and designated care partners to identify learning needs and priorities, providing education that is useful, understandable, and affirming.
- Minimize risk of harm by following established nursing practices, protocols, and individual performance standards.
- Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision‑making.
- Use data to monitor outcomes of care processes and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that continuously enhance quality and safety.
- Function effectively within nursing and inter‑professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision‑making.
- Recognize patients and families in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
- Create an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Demonstrate a commitment to learning and seek opportunities for continued professional growth and development; act in a primary preceptor role for appropriate staff members.
- Actively participate in hospital‑ and practice‑setting based committees, including safety and quality improvement.
- Show willingness to give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice.
- Specialized diploma or graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Patient‑and Family‑Centered Practice knowledge and skill in conveying respect and collaboration.
- Cultural Awareness and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively with diverse backgrounds.
- Effective Communication skills: understanding of concepts, tools, and techniques to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs.
- Patient Assessment and Care ability to assess ailments and injuries and implement treatment plans.
- Patient and Designated Care Partner Education knowledge of child and adult education techniques; ability to elicit learning priorities and educate on condition, treatment, and recovery.
- Medication Administration and Prescription knowledge of various medications and ability to apply knowledge to administration and prescription.
- Discharge Planning knowledge and ability to partner in developing discharge plans and arranging follow‑up care.
- Assessment and Diagnosis knowledge of tools and techniques for nursing diagnosis or clinical judgment.
- Health Information Documentation knowledge of appropriate documentation methods in written or electronic form.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- RN license in Pennsylvania or New Jersey; active RN license required.
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within three years of hire strongly preferred.
- One year previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting strongly preferred.
Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. Examples: push/pull patients on bed or stretcher, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs of patient weight. Frequent to continuous standing and walking. Patient transporters may walk 8–10 miles per shift. May be required to kneel, bend, squat, or perform CPR.
