Job Description
Apply protective coatings and insulation materials to pipes, tanks, vessels, and structures to prevent corrosion, heat loss, or gain. Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sandblasting, or grinding to ensure proper adhesion of coatings. Mix and apply various insulation materials like fiberglass, mineral wool, foam, or spray‑on coatings according to specifications. Install insulation jacketing and vapor barriers using appropriate tools and techniques. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine material requirements and application methods.
Operate specialized equipment such as spray guns, rollers, brushes, and power tools safely and effectively. Perform quality control checks to ensure coatings are applied evenly, meet thickness requirements, and are free of defects. Follow strict safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to site‑specific safety regulations. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper storage and disposal of materials and waste.
Collaborate with supervisors and other trades to coordinate work schedules and ensure project completion on time.
- High School Diploma or GED typically required.
- Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in insulation or coatings application.
- Certification from recognized industry bodies (e.g., NACE, SSPC) is highly advantageous.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in industrial insulation or protective coatings.
- Experience working in sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or construction.
- Proficiency in English for understanding instructions and safety guidelines.
- Skilled in surface preparation techniques and application methods for diverse coating types.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, communicate clearly, and problem‑solve on the job.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality, durable finishes.
- Excellent physical stamina, ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and lift heavy materials.
