Summary

The Family Home Visiting Educator will be an advocate for families with native children in the home by supporting the development of happy, healthy, and successful First American children and families through a coordinated home-visiting strategy that addresses critical maternal and child health, development, early learning, family support, and child abuse and neglect prevention. This role works to support and strengthen collaborative cooperation by promoting linkages among various programs that serve pregnant women, expectant fathers, young children, and families, resulting in coordinated, comprehensive early childhood systems in Chickasaw communities.

Responsibilities
  • Recruits parents or caregivers to participate in the Tribal Home Visiting Program
  • Visits young families in their homes or other community settings and teaches a comprehensive parenting curriculum
  • Provides social support and connects parents or caregivers to other community resources
  • Maintains documentation requirements and enters data into the database
  • Educates families on maternal and child health topics such as breastfeeding, safe sleep, preventing unintended child injuries, and nutrition
  • Works with families to encourage early language development and early learning at home
  • Teaches positive parenting skills like reading, playing, and praising good behaviors
  • Uses evidence-based developmental and/or psychosocial screening tools during home visits at routine intervals to establish progress or identify risk
  • Works with and provides resources to caregivers to set goals for the future which may include but are not limited to continuing their education, finding employment, food pantry services and childcare solutions as needed
  • Represents the Tribal Home Visiting Program and the organization’s other programs during community meetings and in-service presentations for community partners
  • Hosts and facilitates parent connection groups
  • Participates in meetings to ensure effective communication with staff, peers, supervisors and management
  • Provides first class customer service to both internal and external customers and responds to inquiries, compliments, and/or complaints with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency
  • Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities
  • Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types
  • Maintains a clean, organized work area and ensures a safe environment
  • Maintains and promotes professionalism
  • Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance and other assigned work time metrics
  • Adheres to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines for assigned area
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
