QUALIFICATIONS- Current and valid license by the Illinois Registered Professional Nurse Department of Professional Regulation
- Holder or eligible for an Illinois Professional Educator License as a School Nurse
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work with details and maintain accurate and thorough records
- Strong project management skills, including personal initiative and ability to coordinate with others
Assessment
- Prepares comprehensive health histories and pertinent medical reports.
- Participates in joint evaluation process with other disciplines.
- Prepares emergency health care plans for all students who need them and trains classroom teams on implementation.
- Assesses environmental needs of students and makes recommendations for adaptations.
- Arranges, supervises, and follows up on all physical assessment programs.
- Performs ongoing assessment of student progress and changes in students' needs based on systematic data collection and analysis.
Program Planning
- Collaborates with related service personnel to determine program needs.
- Plans for, administers, and/or supervises the administration of health-related procedures (e.g., medication distribution, gastrostomy tube care) necessary for student participation.
- Writes medical support plans for students with IEPs and/or 504s.
- Assists families and staff in securing available health and community resources.
- Arranges for sub‑nurse coverage in assigned buildings.
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials, including activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, and required documentation.
Program Implementation
- Provides services to students in accordance with IEP requirements.
- Communicates building personnel weekly schedule.
- Balances service delivery models between direct, indirect, and consultative.
- Secures specialized equipment necessary to maintain the general health of all students and trains staff on its use and maintenance.
- Secures required physical and dental examination and immunization records for all students and keeps all health records up to date.
- Documents progress, feedback, and recommendations for program changes.
- Maintains data, records of attendance, contacts and logs as required.
- Maintains confidentiality about pupils and families, both within and outside the school setting.
- Participates in staffing and annual review as required by IEPs.
- Acts as liaison between school, student, parent, and community agencies regarding student health status.
- Participates in and presents in-service programs as necessary.
- Expands professional knowledge and expertise by attending staff development activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- All student attendance days, Institute Days, and workdays, with an additional five days as determined by the Principal.
- Salary to be established by the Board of Education, commensurate with experience; starting salary for licensed staff is $53,990.

- Sick and personal days.
The Principal or designee will serve as the evaluator with performance reviewed annually in accordance with the Board Policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
