Overview
Due to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking Commissioning Engineer IV positions to support our client teams. With a staff of over 200 experienced utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, TRC delivers comprehensive, cost‑effective solutions to Electric Utility Customers while providing extensive training and mentorship opportunities.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, perform and document all commissioning activities (pre‑commissioning, through construction, testing‑commissioning, energization, project close‑out) of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC’s and client requirements, budgets, schedules.
- Review wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering documents in advance of projects and outages.
- Perform trouble‑shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to application errors, diagram errors, wiring errors, settings errors, equipment malfunctions, questionable apparatus test results, battery ground faults.
- Participate in project meetings such as kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons‑learned meetings.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project‑completion reports and documentation that include project progress, issues, recommendations, test results and analyses.
- Assist in developing project‑specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned documentation.
- Identify risks and mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment. Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high‑risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize circuit isolation and restoration procedures.
- Ensure all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents and that test results are acceptable, permanently recorded, filed and distributed.
- Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or university and related experience with testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience preferred but willing to train engineers with relevant experience).
- 7+ years of related experience with testing and commissioning services; project located in the Mid‑Atlantic.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer drawings, specifications, and schematic diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of or ability to learn electrical protection systems, including relay communication.
- Basic understanding or ability to learn AC and DC schematics, wiring, drawings, one‑line and three‑line interconnection diagrams.
- Prior professional experience in medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment and ability to perform basic apparatus testing and interpret results with supervision.
- Solid knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits, ability to perform commissioning activities and interpret results with supervision.
- Test experience using Doble Protection Suite, Pro Test, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS preferred.
- Current U.S. work eligibility and a valid U.S. driver’s license issued by state of residence.
- Available for out‑of‑town travel of up to several weeks at a time.
- Flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays and night work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to negotiate effectively with clients and team.
