Portfolio Director, Finance and Economics Department of Operations, Innovation, and Leadership, School of Business (12‑Month Collegiate Faculty). Hybrid with 2‑3days per week on‑site in Adelphi, MD; occasional additional days on‑site.

Summary

The Portfolio Director is a key academic and strategic leader within the Global Academic and Learning Enterprise (GALE)  role sets the vision, direction, and priorities for a portfolio of learning experiences within finance and economics, ensuring alignment to workforce trends, employer needs, and academic innovation. It curates degrees, certificates, micro‑credentials, and workforce‑based programs, collaborating across university teams to optimize learner outcomes, enhance access, and ensure career relevance.

Success is measured by leading a data‑informed, high‑performing portfolio that delivers stackable, market‑responsive learning experiences and drives measurable improvements in learner access, engagement, and outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and lead the intellectual and strategic direction and priorities for the Finance and Economics portfolio of learning experiences.
  • Identify and ensure stackability of skills‑based learning experiences, mapping pathways including non‑credit, micro‑credential, professional, and workforce development options through academic courses, certificates, and degrees.
  • Develop relationships with industry and community partners, including employers, professional organizations, certification bodies, and other universities to ensure curriculum alignment and emerging relevance.
  • Remain connected to national discussions about the post‑secondary education landscape, learner outcomes, workforce needs, and educational innovations in the relevant disciplines.
  • Identify new technologies, theories, and approaches within Finance and Economics to enhance learner preparation for the workforce and the quality of the learning experience.
  • Innovate and collaborate with university stakeholders on validation and credentialing of diverse forms of prior learning, contributing to new credentialing models.
  • Work with Product Management to evolve the portfolio based on labor market and learner demand, ensuring stackable, scalable, and timely offerings.
  • Collaborate across the university to deliver a best‑in‑class learner experience, enhancing engagement and resolving learner issues and grievances to increase learner success.
  • Optimize quality and performance of learning experiences through data‑driven activities, using metrics of learner satisfaction, engagement, learning, and success.
  • Monitor portfolio performance through data and analytics, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Use market and audience research to assess portfolio performance in national post‑secondary and employer markets, identifying appropriate learning experiences to start, stop, or continue.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs to identify appropriate academic support services and with the Office of Community Engagement and Opportunity to monitor learner satisfaction and achievement gaps.
  • Work with key stakeholders (Integrative Learning Design and the Center for Institutional Effectiveness) to use assignment, course, faculty, and program level data for targeted improvements.
  • Plan and convene Product Design Summits for product vision, strategic direction, and alignment with employer and industry knowledge.
  • Approve industry‑leading SMEs to develop learning and curriculum content, collaborating with Integrative Learning Design on revisions of learning experiences.
  • Facilitate a global community of faculty, ensuring faculty are prepared to facilitate learning experiences while maintaining curriculum fidelity.
  • Partner with the Faculty Affairs and Scheduling Team to monitor teaching performance, provide coaching support, and ensure adjunct faculty meet learner needs.
  • Convene portfolio team meetings, maintain communications infrastructure, and foster a connected community of practice.
  • Serve as national and international university spokesperson for effective learner experience practices.
