The Opportunity
RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (40 hrs/wk) Head Building Operator IV position starting August 24 2026 at Ecole Edwards Elementary School, George McDougall High School & RVS Community Learning Centre (Airdrie Campus).
Under the joint supervision of the Senior Manager of Caretaking and the School Principal, the Head Building Operator (HBO) provides caretaking services at their assigned Rocky View Schools facilities. The HBO leads a team that is responsible for keeping school building, grounds, contents, and furnishings in good appearance, and in clean, tidy, sanitary condition. The HBO creates a schedule of duties for each team member ensuring facilities are maintained in accordance with RVS levels of service.
In addition, the HBO performs minor maintenance duties and manages the security of facilities and building systems at all times while at work.

Responsibilities- Leads a team responsible for caretaking duties including, but not limited to cleaning of school and grounds, snow removal responsibilities, preventative maintenance, and similar related duties in collaboration with Operations
- Reports any defect, damages, or loss of school property to the Principal
- Is responsible for the evaluation of all caretaking staff under their supervision
- Ensures temperatures in the school building are maintained during the school day
- Reviews the schedule of duties for the school with the Supervisor of Caretaking and the Principal on an annual basis
- Orders caretaking supplies, equipment and materials
- Coordinates cleaning duties with Community Use Supervisors at work in their facility as required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years previous experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a Caretaking setting
- 1-3 years previous experience with building management systems
- 5+ years previous caretaking/cleaning experience
- Valid Alberta operators license (class
5) - Valid Building Operator A or B Ticket or a 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate is an asset for this position
- Certifications from cleaning organization is considered an asset
- Previous experience within a school division is considered an asset
- Advanced knowledge of proper cleaning procedures
- Working knowledge of heating and mechanical systems in schools
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Effective supervisory skills, including training, and delegating
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient on Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
