Chief Financial Officer – Association for Career & Technical Education
Location:
Alexandria, Virginia (hybrid – minimum of 2 days per week in office)
The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is the largest national education association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for careers. Founded in 1926, ACTE is currently experiencing significant growth, maintaining a strong financial position with over $10.9 million in revenue for 2025 and $14 million in cash reserves.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic financial leader reporting directly to the Executive Director, managing all financial, human resources, and operations functions.
- Ensure accuracy of financial reporting and oversee system integrations between the iMIS database and Sage Intacct accounting system.
- Lead budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, human resources, facilities, contracts, technology, and internal control systems.
- Supervise a geographically dispersed internal team and an outsourced Controller, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Provide financial guidance and support to the Board of Directors and Audit Committee, translating complex financial information to stakeholders.
- Maintain compliance, audit readiness, and optimize operational efficiency to support ACTE’s continued growth.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $180,000 – $200,000, commensurate with experience.
- Robust benefits package, including health, dental, vision, retirement, and other standard benefits.
- Annual bonus plan up to 5% based on performance and organizational results.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- 10+ years of managerial-level accounting experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, government grants, and association/non‑profit finance.
- Experience with financial systems such as Sage Intacct and iMIS.
- Strong supervisory, communication, problem‑solving, time‑management, ethical, detail‑oriented, collaborative, and forward‑thinking attributes.
