Alaska Area Accounting Manager
We are looking for an Accounting Manager located in Anchorage, Alaska, who will report to the Assistant Regional Accounting Director and work closely with the Alaska Area Manager. The role requires analytical, leadership, and management skills to orchestrate accounting support activities for operational processes and initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities- Work directly with the Area Manager and Regional Leadership to analyze and explain current financial results, metrics, KPIs, and trends.
- Manage, mentor, and support a team of project accountants in project accounting and costing, client invoicing, contract interpretation, accounts receivable review, collections, and timely updates in the financial system.
- Partner with the Area Manager to support the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting processes, including ad hoc analysis and reporting.
- Review, report, and support monthly revenue recognition and closing processes.
- Monitor project budgets, general ledger, invoicing, payables, receivables, collection comments, and other related financial information.
- Perform specialized accounting functions and establish internal controls in accordance with HDR policies, accounting procedures, and contractual obligations.
- Liaise with Internal and Quality Audit staff.
- Respond to project‑financial requests from Area Manager and Regional Leadership as needed.
- Manage processing, payment, and reconciliations of Accounts Payable for area overhead costs.
- Communicate and correspond directly with clients regarding invoicing, receivables, and project‑related reporting.
- Attend and participate in Project/Business Reviews.
- Ensure timesheets comply with time‑keeping policies and corporate reporting metrics.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience; advanced degree may offset years of experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, proofreading, spelling, and telephone etiquette.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
- Self‑motivated, well‑organized, detail‑oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s) in Accounting or Finance.
- Customer‑service orientation, respectful work environment, and team‑player attitude.
- Professional maturity and ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Flexibility and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Highly proficient with MS Office; experience with Oracle a plus.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles; project accounting experience in the Architectural/Engineering industry preferred.
- Self‑motivated, well‑organized, detail‑oriented, and ability to manage others.
