Position: Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Apopka, Florida
Step into a dynamic role serving K-12 students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, working in vibrant school communities in the Oviedo and Sanford areas. This contract position is focused primarily on delivering direct, compensatory orientation and mobility services, enabling students with visual impairments to maximize their independence and confidence throughout the academic year.

Candidates enthusiastic about making a difference in students' lives and passionate about their field will find this opportunity especially rewarding. The assignment runs from August 10, 2026, through May 25, 2027, offering a consistent schedule of 37.5 hours per week, with the chance to work across multiple campuses-exact assignments will be determined shortly.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to K-12 students, individualized to meet their specific needs.
  • Complete compensatory services and conduct student evaluations as required.
  • Collaborate and consult effectively with school teams and families.
  • Document progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports according to district guidelines.
  • Travel between assigned schools within the district, adapting to various educational settings.
Qualifications:
  • Active National Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Licensure.
  • Vision certification required.
  • Previous experience in school-based settings highly valued.
  • Ability to provide physical copies of professional credentials.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and Social Security card.
  • Fingerprinting and background check required prior to start.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
