Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
As the Biomedical Technician, you will respond to service calls within a hospital or healthcare system in Appleton, WI. You will evaluate, diagnose, and perform repair and planned maintenance on biomedical equipment, providing service excellence to drive customer satisfaction.
Candidates must be willing to work onsite at customer locations in the Appleton, WI area.
Responsibilities- Under supervision, evaluate basic customer biomedical equipment issues, implement appropriate repairs, and perform preventive maintenance and safety/environmental inspections as assigned.
- Assist more experienced technicians on basic and more complex repairs/resolution.
- Effectively communicate and partner with teammates and colleagues.
- Follow appropriate GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete necessary documentation.
- Maintain daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow‑up, fostering strong customer relations and satisfaction.
- Implement GE/customer facility contracts to support business goals and objectives.
- Work as part of a local team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within the assigned area.
- When trained, share on‑call responsibility.
- Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule.
- Ensure proper care of spares, tools, and test equipment, and maintain calibration.
- Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures for safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
- Use manuals, technical support, Facetime app, online resources, and other references to answer questions when performing preventive maintenance.
- Meet Health and Human Services, Environmental Health and Safety requirements, and all other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent military education; or a participant in GEHC Biomed/FE Services Internship or Military Externship program; or High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years of experience servicing electrical, electronics, IT, or mechanical equipment.
- Analytical and communication skills to explain technical issues to customers in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electro‑mechanical devices.
- Experience interpreting schematic diagrams.
- Compliance with GEHC’s standard background check, including a post‑offer drug test.
- Ongoing compliance with customer access policies, including required immunizations, additional drug tests, or background checks for federal contracts.
- Willingness to work after‑hours, rotating on‑call schedules, weekends, or critical coverage as necessary.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship will be provided.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted; frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods.
- Reach at, above, and below shoulder level; flex/extend neck; good hand and finger dexterity.
- Required vision abilities include color, close, distance, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Complete all planned Quality and Compliance training within defined deadlines.
- Identify and report all customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization.
- Document all work orders, vendor service reports, time and expense reports, preventive maintenance activities, purchase orders, and other duties accurately and timely.
- Track and calibrate 100% of test equipment on schedule.
