Position: Psychiatrist **NO ON-CALL AND DAY HOURS

reporting to the mental health and substance use division manager, the psychiatrist performs various psychiatric evaluations for clients and, as ordered by court, provides psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and adults. The psychiatrist also provides consultation to various departments.

monday‑friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

responsibilities
  • perform psychiatric evaluations and diagnoses of children, adolescents, adults, and families; submit evaluations to referral source when appropriate.
  • conduct court‑ordered psychiatric evaluations and make recommendations to the court; serve as expert witness, providing testimony on evaluation, competency and commitment proceedings, child custody and visitation, and related matters.
  • provide psychotherapy and counseling services for children, adolescents, and adults, and offer treatment recommendations.
  • prescribe medication and monitor patient laboratory results according to recommended standards.
  • deliver specialized evaluations and ongoing services for specialized populations.
  • prepare various evaluations, progress notes, letters, and reports.
  • maintain client case files according to defined reporting standards and for documenting service effectiveness.
  • supervise and direct activities of student interns and staff as directed by the division manager.
  • present and participate in meetings regarding clients.
  • consult with community health and school personnel to provide in‑service or specialized knowledge.
  • consult with other medical providers or pharmacists as needed to ensure continuity of care.
  • complete peer reviews and provide feedback of other contracted staff, including psychiatrists and advanced practice nurse practitioners, to ensure department of health services regulation compliance and quality clinical care.
  • collaborate with apnps on staff as needed.
  • participate in service review meetings to ensure psychiatric services meet best practices and adhere to internal policy and procedure.
  • assist in managing nursing, social work, psychiatric, psychology, and therapy services provided by the department of health and human services.
  • attend training programs and seminars, staying abreast of professional, ethical, and legal issues within the field and maintaining licensure as required to practice as a psychiatrist in wisconsin.
  • attend division and unit meetings as required.
  • maintain regular and predictable attendance, working extra hours as required.
professional qualifications
  • licensed as a psychiatrist in the state of wisconsin with three to five years of psychological evaluation experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
skills and abilities
  • operate office equipment including computer, photocopier, and telephone.
  • perform basic arithmetic and apply descriptive statistics.
  • comprehend and interpret referrals, test results, insurance forms, medical charts, diagnostic manuals, and other documents.
  • prepare documents such as psychiatric evaluations, progress notes, insurance forms, and test summaries.
  • use and interpret psychiatric and other medical and counseling terminology.
  • communicate effectively with clients, human services personnel, physicians, therapists, interns, and other medical personnel in both verbal and written forms.
  • align with department goals, policies, and procedures, as well as outagamie county work rules and terms of employment.
