Skills Needed: I. STOCKING ALL DEPARTMENTS
Truck day product needs to be stocked daily. Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves. Stock fresh product according to the department guidelines, follow all safety protocols. Ensure that department areas (aisles, shelves, bins, and storage areas) are kept in clean and orderly condition Stock by matching UPC to shelf tag, ensuring product fills the correct shelf space. Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock. This is especially true in the fresh departments. Always looking for freshness and quality of product Watch for short-date/bad seals/discolored items and remove product from the sales floor. Pull short-date or low-quality items and follow established procedures for recording and disposing of them. Adheres to task specific SOP’s. Label items accurately with price tags or signs, when necessary. Report price discrepancies to buyers. Maintain stocking lists for other shifts. Notify buyers of out-of-stocks. II. GROCERY Stock product from trucks and back stock for packaged grocery, bulk, beer and wine, freezer, meat and fish, cheese, bakery, and special order following the stocking template. Prioritize items that are out of stock and displays that are running low III. FRESH MEAT AND CHEESE DUTIES Prepare bulk cheese and meat for sale by cutting, packaging and pricing. Follow food preparation and storage guidelines for keeping food safe and food preparation areas clean. IV. PRODUCE Understand how back stock is labeled and dated. Indicate Organic or Non-Organic when stored. Store produce properly to prolong freshness. Understand the credit/protection procedures. Always rotate stock and always remove poor quality items, Assist in cut fruit/vegetable program. Assist in prepping and culling of produce. V. WELLNESS Offer suggestions for purchases without diagnosing illness or prescribing products Clean and dust shelves as needed. Clean bulk area, keeping bottles and pumps clean and clear with legible pricing on bottles and jars. VI. CASHIERING SKILLS Process purchases promptly and courteously Accurately record sales in point of sale system and process payment types Memorize PLU numbers, product names and other means of ringing up items Has a basic understanding of Oneota programs; Double up Food Bucks, Round up at Register, MAD sales, Coop Deals, Coop Basics, and Oneota Sales Count change back to customer Offer bagging and carryout assistance Return carts/baskets to entry VII. STORE MAINTENANCE Ensure that unsalable items are returned or otherwise properly disposed of, following established procedures. Help maintain accurate shrink records. Remove trash promptly, sweep and mop floor. Ensure that department areas (aisles, shelves, bins, and storage areas) are kept in clean and orderly condition. Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures. Advises appropriate party of equipment problems VIII CUSTOMER SERVICE Assist customers with product questions, in prompt and friendly manner. Offer consistent, fair and respectful customer interactions (both internal and external customers) Become familiar with Co-op policies in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to appropriate staff Assist customers with meat and cheese. Make recommendations, sample products (when safe to do so) and answer questions promptly and professionally Assist customers with placing and retrieving special orders. Offer educated suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products. IX. OTHER DUTIES Perform other tasks assigned by Department Manager and/or General Manager. Attend department and store-wide meetings. Keep all department equipment good working order. Participate in inventory counts. Requirements Qualifications: Education: High School Graduate, some secondary education preferred. Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a retail environment, preferably in a co-op or natural food grocery store. Skills & Abilities: Become familiar with Co-op policies in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to appropriate staff Basic computer skills and knowledge (MS Excel, MS Word, POS system knowledge) Accuracy, attention to detail. Ability to handle multiple demands. Regular predictable attendance with willingness to work some weekend & evening hours, and during special events as-needed. Organized, consistently follows through on commitments. Outstanding customer service skills. Enthusiasm for achieving the Ends of Oneota Co-op and promoting membership. Ability to network and connect with customers and the local community – including developing and maintaining favorable relations with staff, owners and vendors as needed. Public speaking experience, approachable personality, and ability to work in a public forum. Proven success working with a wide variety of audiences and personalities in a friendly, gregarious and professional manner. Willingness and ability to grow to meet the changing requirements of the job. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, effective manner. Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Ability to stand and walk for 8 hours/day Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to use hands for keyboard, using standard grocery tools and pulling and pushing carts for hauling product. Tolerant of hot and cold temperature Ability to bend, squat, reach on a daily basis.
