- Design and oversee end-to-end system architectures supporting federal programs and mission systems
- Translate agency business, functional, and mission requirements into technical architectures and solution designs
- Ensure compliance with federal policies, standards, and frameworks (e.g., FISMA, NIST, FedRAMP)
- Develop architecture artifacts including system diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), and design specifications
- Support cloud, hybrid, and on-premises architectures in accordance with agency cloud adoption strategies
- Collaborate with government stakeholders, program managers, cybersecurity teams, and contractors
- Provide technical oversight during system development, integration, testing, and deployment
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, tools, and vendors consistent with federal acquisition and security requirements
- Support system modernization, legacy system replacement, and data integration initiatives
- Participate in technical reviews, architecture boards, and design approval processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline
- 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, IT architecture, or enterprise systems
- 3+ years supporting federal government or public sector IT programs
- Strong knowledge of federal IT standards and compliance requirements
- Experience designing systems in cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation for government audiences
- Strong communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience supporting civilian or DoD agencies
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, FEAF, DoDAF)
- Knowledge of NIST 800-53, RMF, Zero Trust, and federal cybersecurity controls
- Experience with FedRAMP-authorized cloud services (AWS Gov Cloud, Azure Government, GCP)
- Architecture or cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, TOGAF, CISSP)
- Active or ability to obtain a government security clearance (if required by contract)
- Must be available to be onsite at the USPTO office in Arlington, VA within 48 hours of customer request

At least 10%; travel to Arlington, VA should be feasible and sustainable for the candidate (proximity to the DC metro area is strongly preferred)
Work Schedule:
Day shift Monday – Friday. May be requested to work evenings and weekends to meet program and contract needs.
