Oregon State University Division of Extension & Engagement’s 4-H Youth Development Program invites applications for a 4-H Program Coordinator position. This is a 12‑month, full‑time, professional faculty position based at the OSU Extension Service Clatsop County Office in Astoria, Oregon.

This 4-H Program Coordinator is responsible for the management, promotion, and delivery of a diverse portfolio of non‑credit educational programming that meets the needs of youth in Clatsop County. All 4‑H academic and professional faculty are expected to use best practices in positive youth development to ensure that educational programs are of high quality and produce their intended outcomes. Programs are implemented in a manner that measures impact, fosters program improvement, builds volunteer capacity and participation, and strengthens community connections.

The Coordinator works extensively with volunteers, in supervisory and collaborative roles, and must possess excellent interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with colleagues, youth, other educational and youth developmental programs, volunteers, families, community partners, camp administrators, elected board members, and county employees. The role requires attentiveness to detail, the ability to teach adults and youth, and the skill to promote and market programs to adult and youth audiences using digital communications and engagement tools.

Position

Duties
  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, volunteer development, education, family sciences, natural resources, agricultural or animal sciences, leadership, management, communications, or a closely related field. Degree must be completed by start date.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting successfully with adult volunteers.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, designing and/or developing Extension or other educational programs.
  • General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, professional office software and collaborative work platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience leading groups and planning, organizing, evaluating, managing, resolving conflicts and delegating details associated with program management.
  • A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
  • Demonstrated ability engaging with youth 5‑19 years of age.
  • Ability to engage and communicate successfully and inclusively, both in writing and verbally, with a broad and diverse audience in a culturally responsible manner.
  • Ability to learn and use multiple forms of digital communication tools and systems, including websites, collaborative work platforms, email newsletters, social media, and other emerging technologies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work as a team member with other professionals.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the 4-H program and/or positive youth development principles.
  • Demonstrated financial management skills.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) and/or bicultural with ability to engage Spanish‑speaking audiences through bilingual and bicultural skills.
  • Experience as a collaborator who leverages resources and networks in the community.
  • Experience with securing grants or other external support for educational programs.
  • Ability to work successfully with an advisory group or committee.
  • Ability to incorporate the use of web, social media, newsletters or other digital technologies in program development or outreach activities to achieve goals.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires driving/traveling to provide educational programming and services throughout designated County.
  • Ability to transport (lift/carry/push/pull) up to 30 lbs. of instructional materials and/or equipment.
  • Position duties will include working in varied working environments including professional office, county fairs, youth camps, and livestock barns.
