Position Summary
The Department of Entomology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences seeks a full‑time, 12‑month research‑track faculty position at the assistant research scientist level. The role focuses on the ecology and evolution of globally invasive ant species, with a budgeted emphasis of 95% research and 5% service. The position is renewable based on satisfactory performance and funding, and requires an experienced researcher who can use molecular genetics, population biology, and macroevolutionary analyses to characterize invasive populations and compare them with native or intact populations.
Responsibilities- Design, organize, and conduct advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, including the development of new protocols when necessary.
- Synthesize experimental findings, publish results in peer‑reviewed journals, and actively apply for and secure external funding to support research activities.
- Mentor and guide students in research, and engage in resident instruction.
- A doctoral degree in entomology, ecology, or a closely related field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including molecular genetic analysis, sample collection planning, macroevolutionary data compilation, and phylogeographic analysis.
- Demonstrated track record in project design, publishing, and obtaining extramural funding.
- Expertise in invasive species biology, macroecology, phylogenetics, functional trait evolution, and ant biology.
- Preferred: 3–5 years of postdoctoral research experience.
- Access to laboratory and field equipment; control of non‑financial resources.
- Requires no driving or handling of hazardous chemicals.
