Position Summary

The Devos lab requires the assistance of a full-time laboratory technician to ensure that project deliverables are met, undergraduate employees are adequately trained and supervised in the lab, and to ensure that supplies and chemicals are properly ordered and tracked. This position is in the Devos Lab and assists with a variety of research projects as well as conducts administrative duties, ordering, maintaining chemical inventories, and ensuring compliance with lab safety regulations.

Additional duties include assisting with greenhouse and field work. This position involves the use of a P‑Card.

Salary: $35, (commensurate with experience);
Benefits: eligible.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. Proposed start date: 06/01/2026.

Responsibilities
  • Administrative duties such as ordering laboratory supplies from various vendors using UGAMart and other platforms, and maintaining lab safety records.
  • Use Campus Optics for tracking chemicals stored in the laboratory.
  • Train new student employees on proper safety and compliance processes.
  • Serve as a P‑Card holder, processing transactions in compliance with policy and established procedures.
  • Assist with a variety of research projects in the Devos lab: plant growth, maintenance and harvesting, laboratory experiments, and preparation of reagents and media.
  • Support greenhouse and field work where plant material for sponsored projects is grown, propagated and harvested.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Competencies
  • Detail-oriented and accurate for both experimental activities and lab manager activities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good financial acumen to manage budgets and procurement.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and acquire new procedures/skills and solve routine technical problems.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments, working independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to train others effectively and efficiently in the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
Physical Demands
  • Greenhouse and outdoor work in hot conditions.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Some sitting and standing in the laboratory environment.
  • Driving as needed to perform job duties.
