Systems Engineer
Title: Senior Architect
Location: Brookhaven, GA, on site 4 days per week.
Compensation: $160K to $180K
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the US
The Senior Software Architect is responsible for driving architectural excellence across multiple software platforms supporting life and Medicare Supplement insurance products. This role drives architecture outcomes across teams, ensuring solutions are aligned to enterprise standards, security practices, and business priorities. Serving as a core member of the Architecture Review Board (ARB), the Senior Architect acts as a critical bridge between business objectives, engineering execution, and governance.
This role combines hands‑on technical leadership, strategic architectural alignment, and organizational influence to enable teams to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant solutions at enterprise scale.
- Drive architectural direction across multiple agile teams and solution areas, ensuring consistency and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Partner with engineering leaders, product owners, and delivery leads to align architecture with roadmap priorities and incremental delivery goals.
- Provide architectural clarity across parallel initiatives, helping teams navigate trade‑offs, dependencies, and technical risk.
- Ensure architectural decisions are outcome‑driven, enabling faster delivery while protecting long‑term platform health.
- Serve as an active leader within the Architecture Review Board (ARB), shaping architectural standards, guardrails, and reference architectures.
- Guide teams through ARB reviews, helping them successfully design solutions that meet security, compliance, and scalability expectations.
- Establish and maintain architectural decision records (ADRs) to promote transparency, traceability, and audit readiness.
- Balance governance with enablement—ensuring ARB processes accelerate delivery rather than impede it.
- Champion security‑by‑design and privacy‑by‑design practices across all application and integration architectures.
- Partner closely with information security and risk teams to align solutions with threat modeling, identity, and data protection standards.
- Ensure architectures support regulatory and audit requirements, including multi‑state insurance compliance, data retention, and traceability.
- Embed security considerations early in design to reduce downstream risk and rework.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to translate business and regulatory needs into well‑architected, ARB‑approved solutions.
- Provide hands‑on architectural guidance during design and implementation of critical platforms, services, and integrations.
- Work alongside Dev Ops and platform teams to ensure solutions are operationally sound, observable, and resilient.
- Support modernization efforts while pragmatically guiding teams through legacy and hybrid system constraints.
- Define architectural patterns for Azure‑based platforms, including APIs, event‑driven systems, messaging, and data services.
- Promote reusable integration and service patterns that improve scalability, reliability, and time‑to‑market.
- Ensure solutions meet non‑functional requirements such as availability, disaster recovery, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches, providing recommendations grounded in business value and risk.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, strengthening architectural thinking and security awareness across teams.
- Contribute to the evolution of architectural governance, standards, and delivery practices as the organization matures.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in senior technical or architectural roles.
- Experience operating within formal architecture governance or review processes.
- Strong background in distributed, service‑oriented, or event‑driven architectures.
- Hands‑on experience with modern cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure).
- Solid understanding of secure application design in regulated enterprise environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
