* Position Summary
The Solar Construction Manager is the senior on-site leader responsible for directing and executing all civil, mechanical, and electrical self-performed construction activities on utility-scale and commercial solar projects. This role requires a highly self-motivated, execution-driven leader who does not wait to be directed but instead takes ownership of outcomes, drives performance, and ensures field operations align with the overall project and company strategy.
This individual must understand the full project lifecycle - from pre-construction planning through commissioning - and consistently operate with a big-picture mindset while managing day-to-day field execution. The Solar Construction Manager is accountable for safety, schedule, quality, manpower productivity, cost control, and client satisfaction.
Core Leadership Expectations
* Demonstrates strong internal drive and personal accountability to execute without constant oversight.
* Operates with urgency and discipline to meet aggressive schedules.
* Understands how field decisions impact budget, schedule, client relationships, and company reputation.
* Thinks beyond daily production and understands how their site fits into the broader company objectives.
* Anticipates challenges and proactively develops solutions.
* Leads from the front with professionalism, integrity, and high standards.
Key Responsibilities
Field Execution & Self-Perform Oversight
* Direct and manage all on-site civil, mechanical, and electrical self-perform operations.
* Oversee site grading, pile driving, foundations, racking installation, module installation, DC collection systems, inverter installation, MV systems, and commissioning support.
* Develop detailed work plans and sequencing strategies aligned with the master project schedule.
* Drive daily production targets and hold field leadership accountable for results.
Big-Picture Project Alignment
* Understand project financial targets and manage field execution accordingly.
* Coordinate with project management, engineering, procurement, and executive leadership to ensure alignment.
* Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
* Maintain forward-looking schedule awareness rather than reacting to delays.
Safety Leadership
* Champion a zero-incident safety culture.
* Enforce OSHA, NEC, and environmental compliance standards.
* Lead by example in all safety practices.
* Conduct site audits, JHAs, and corrective action processes.
Quality & Compliance
* Ensure all installations meet engineered drawings and specifications.
* Implement QA/QC programs and inspection protocols.
* Maintain documentation and inspection readiness at all times.
Operational & Financial Accountability
* Monitor labor productivity and equipment utilization.
* Control costs within approved budgets.
* Support change order documentation and cost forecasting.
* Maintain accurate daily reporting and progress tracking.
Team Leadership & Development
* Lead superintendents, foremen, and craft labor.
* Build a culture of ownership, discipline, and high performance.
* Set clear expectations and hold teams accountable.
* Develop and mentor field leaders.
Qualifications
* 5-10+ years of construction management experience in utility-scale or commercial solar.
* Proven experience managing civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes in a self-perform environment.
* Strong understanding of solar construction processes including piles, trackers, DC/AC systems, and commissioning.
* Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and NEC requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to lead large field teams and execute under aggressive schedules.
* Strong problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
Preferred Certifications
* OSHA 30+
* NABCEP (preferred)
* PMP (preferred)
* First Aid/CPR
