Job Purpose/Overview
The Lead Laboratory Technician oversees the day‑to‑day activities in an animal diagnostic reference laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests. Responsibilities include supervising staff, assigning work, evaluating results, and ensuring compliance with laboratory policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise day‑to‑day laboratory activities, including analysis and testing.
- Assign work, monitor staff activities, and resolve escalated issues.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and training to laboratory personnel.
- Lead lab planning, staffing, and resource allocation to meet schedules and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate with related departments, vendors, and internal personnel to resolve issues.
- Maintain and troubleshoot diagnostic equipment and other technical resources.
- Train staff on Standard Operating Procedures and workflow goals.
- Oversee entry, release, and packaging of results and send‑outs.
- Order and maintain supplies and ensure quality control protocols are followed.
- Provide feedback on staff performance to leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent required. 2‑ or 4‑year degree in a science‑related field preferred, or a minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience. Prior leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Laboratory skills and general science background.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills for clear information exchange.
- Proficient computer skills; strong typing and Microsoft Office knowledge.
- English language proficiency for team meetings and data entry.
Stationary position required for up to two hours; often seated at a computer and lab equipment. Occasional bending, kneeling, stooping, or crouching. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Exposure to biohazards mitigated by PPE, potential zoonotic disease agents, and hazardous chemicals per National Hazard Communication Standards.
Pay and ScheduleShift: 12:00am – 8:30am, Monday–Friday, with alternating Saturdays. Target pay:$24.95 per hour.
