This position will perform studies on Alzheimer’s disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models in the Seo laboratory. Responsibilities include feeding special diets, administering pharmacological drugs to mice, weighing mice, performing animal behavior tests, collecting and processing mouse specimens for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis, and publishing results in scientific journals. In addition, the role requires performing molecular biology and biochemical experiments, minor surgery, microscopic and statistical/computational analyses, maintaining animal breeding colonies, observing animals for clinical or behavioral signs of illness, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and documentation, as well as contributing to the development of new research techniques and procedures.
Responsibilities- Plan experiments independently and develop research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
- Perform studies on Alzheimer’s disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models.
- Feed special diets, administer pharmacological drugs to mice, and weigh mice.
- Conduct animal behavior tests.
- Observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments directed by veterinary staff.
- Maintain mouse breeding colonies, including genotyping, sacrificing animals, and collecting tissues.
- Perform molecular biology/biochemical experiments, minor surgical, microscopic, and statistical/computational analyses.
- Execute sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning.
- Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; publish results in scientific journals.
- Assure compliance with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen inventory.
- Develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures.
- Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area, and experience in a research or clinical setting.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in those fields and a minimum of three years of experience in a research or clinical area.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases, or willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, complete work, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
- Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
Salary and Benefits
- Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday - Pay Band: B5 – Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
