Job Summary
The Research Manager leads the day‑to‑day operations of research initiatives, including state, federal, and foundation‑funded grants and contracts. The role ensures high‑quality implementation of research projects by coordinating planning, quality control, documentation, and regulatory compliance (e.g., HRSA, NIH, AU, IRB). The Research Manager supervises research staff, provides grant oversight, and supports the Principal Investigator in executing research and community activities. This position emphasizes participatory and community‑based research centered on mental and rural health, promotes collaboration, and supports strategic planning to strengthen the research infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Research Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
:
Oversee compliance with IRB protocols, monitor submissions, timelines, and amendments; prepare regulatory documentation and study materials; provide guidance to study coordinators and coordinate with relevant agencies. - Grant and Funding Support
:
Assist with grant application preparation and submission; monitor awarded grants; track budgets and expenses; identify future funding opportunities; support research design and proposal development. - Research Project Operations
:
Manage study data; organize and plan project‑related meetings; coordinate with funding agencies; oversee all project activities to ensure timely completion of tasks and adherence to timelines. - Research Staff Supervision
:
Supervise, onboard, and manage research staff; oversee work schedules, approve leave requests, monitor workload, project progress, and quality control; provide performance feedback and foster professional development and effective team communication. - Strategic Planning and Special Projects
:
Support operational strategic plans; track KPIs; implement special projects to enhance research support services. - Customer Service Compliance
:
Maintain high‑quality interactions with participants, faculty, staff, and external collaborators. - Collaboration and Communication
:
Work with faculty, staff, and external partners to understand research needs and tailor support; maintain documentation and communication for successful project execution. - Participatory and Community‑Based Research Compliance
:
Promote dignity, respect, and meaningful participation in research; facilitate communication, collaboration, and co‑design of research processes with community stakeholders. - Other duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. from an accredited institution with at least one year of experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory (especially clinical trial research) and previous supervisory experience.
- or Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related natural, life, health care, or materials science with at least five years of experience in the same area and previous supervisory experience.
- or Bachelor’s degree in the same scientific disciplines with at least eight years of experience in the same area and previous supervisory experience.
- Ph.D. with one year of directly applicable related experience.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate project management expertise.
- Make independent judgment regarding daily work and prioritization.
- Strong knowledge of database design, data integration, and familiarity with cloud platforms and cyber security standards.
- Problem solving, communication, and organization skills.
Shift: Days M–F (outside normal business hours may be required). Pay band 12. Salary minimum $62,300 annually, commensurate with qualifications. Benefits may include health, dental, life insurance, retirement plan, earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Tuition Assistance Program available for full‑time employees employed for more than six months.
