Job Location:

Saint Marys, GA.

As a Field Service Technician-Network you will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases (Key Systems, PBX, Centrex Systems, and other business systems). You will also work with splicing and maintaining outside plant facilities and equipment, including aerial, buried, and underground fiber optic and copper cable. In this role you will engage directly with customers, providing support, identifying needs, and presenting TDS services and products such as Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and high-speed networks.

Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the selected candidate must reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Saint Marys, Georgia warehouse (103 Martha Drive, Saint Marys, GA 31558).

Responsibilities
  • Installs, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains telephone equipment, network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, and fiber optic/copper facilities, as well as Key Systems, PBX, Centrex, and other business systems.
  • Identifies locations of defective cable using test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, or customer cable; locates cable and fiber for customer requests or construction needs.
  • Operates construction equipment and climbs poles; logs all locate requests and performs cable fault acceptance tests.
  • Provides troubleshooting support, responds to 'trouble' dispatches, and offers technical corrections.
  • Maintains record systems for cross-connects, line groups, and network elements.
  • Provides excellent customer service, proactively educates and sells TDS products and services.
  • Performs project management of system installations and related functions as requested by supervisors.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience, or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • 6+ months of fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, or switch training.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Adherence to TDS attendance guidelines.

Other Qualifications

  • Successful completion of customer-specific requirements, including background checks administered by customers.
  • Availability for on-call/standby responsibilities; willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.
  • Successful completion of all components of the Safety Course curriculum and maintenance of DOT requirements for operating heavy vehicles (GVRW >10,000 lbs).
  • Strong technical understanding of fiber and copper plant installation and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of telecom products and services, including indoor wiring, internet/intranet, bonding & grounding, data & computer transmission concepts, fiber optics, video/CATV/DBS installation, and related systems.
  • Computer proficiency with databases, trouble/repair/dispatch systems, plant record systems, MS Office.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated customer service, sales, and communication skills.
  • Proven organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work requires frequent sitting, standing, writing, computer use, and telephone communication. Tasks include moving, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing. You may need to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally. Vision demands include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. The role may involve outdoor work, mechanical/equipment rooms, and extreme weather conditions, with exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment.

Pay Transparency

The listed pay range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary: $25.13 per hour to $37.69 per hour. Actual offers will be based on skills, experience, location, and role-specific competencies. Some positions may offer additional compensation such as bonuses or equity awards.
