Position Purpose

The teacher is a ministerial employee of a Catholic school and supports the Catholic Church’s value system by conveying its message and mission in the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement educational and spiritual philosophy and procedures of the local school
  • Observe the Code of Professional Ethics strictly
  • Instruct children in assigned subjects, guiding learning and adjusting instruction to meet individual student needs
  • Plan lessons, prepare materials, assist students, read professional literature, serve on diocesan staff committees, attend faculty meetings, and confer with the principal on instructional and disciplinary matters
  • Participate in all faculty meetings and prescribed in-service training opportunities
  • Attend teacher institutes as stipulated by the school and the Catholic Schools Office
  • Complete Catholic Identity Formation Training and other required professional development from the Diocese of Joliet
  • Supervise students and maintain discipline on the premises before, during, and after school
  • Be present when classes begin and remain in the classroom during periods unless emergency
  • Maintain general knowledge of student folders
  • Secure principal approval for important communications with parents
  • Encourage student responsibility in conduct and behavior within the school and beyond
  • Contribute to the nurturing and advancement of students’ physical, mental, and spiritual well-being
  • Report to principal and parents on educational growth and development of students
  • Collaborate with parents to assist them as primary educators
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress in school
  • Communicate professionally with all constituents including administration, pastor, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents
  • Use technology to enhance student learning effectively
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or pastor
Education and Experience
  • Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or a valid out-of-state certificate with reciprocity, or be enrolled in an accredited program working toward licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment
  • Practicing Catholic preferred; required to teach religion or theology courses
Annual Salary Range

$31,824 - $58,352 (final salary determined by teaching experience and education)

Physical Abilities
