Position: Material Handler (Lacon, IL) O'Brien Steel

Pay

$20.50 – $24.50 per hour (based on experience and shift)

Position Overview

We are hiring Material Handlers to support processing and fabrication operations across the Lacon facility. This role is responsible for safely moving, staging, and loading material to support both external customer orders and internal production needs.

Responsibilities may include unloading inbound material, staging and picking material for customer shipment, picking material for production needs, and loading outbound shipments. This position operates a variety of material handling equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes, and may support multiple areas of the operation based on business needs.

No prior manufacturing or warehouse experience required; on-the-job training will be provided

Key Responsibilities
  • Move and transport material throughout the facility using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment
  • Unload inbound trucks and store material in designated locations
  • Pick, package, and prepare customer orders for outbound shipment
  • Load trucks with finished orders, ensuring proper securement to prevent shifting or damage in transit
  • Pick and stage material to support production equipment and scheduling needs
  • Safely rig, lift, and secure steel products using appropriate methods and equipment
  • Verify material type, stock size, dimensions, and quantities prior to movement
  • Work with supervisors and team members to meet production and shipping schedules
Qualifications & Skills
  • Previous manufacturing or warehouse experience preferred but not required
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or similar equipment preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret basic work orders or material documentation
  • Ability to use a tape measure or other measuring devices
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or climb for extended periods (8+ hours per shift)
  • Ability to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors
Shift & Scheduling

Multiple shifts are available. Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate their preferred shift during the application process. 2nd and 3rd shift positions may include additional pay through a shift differential. Final shift assignment will be based on business needs and applicant experience.

Overtime opportunities may be available based on workload and production needs.
