Position:  Water Pipeline Technician Worker or Associate

Austin Water department is looking for several Pipeline Technician Workers or Associates.

You'll be part of one of the largest program areas working all over Austin to operate, maintain and repair our water distribution, collection of wastewater pipeline system infrastructure located underground, including valves and hydrants

Pay Range depends on experience:
Pipeline Technician Worker $15.60 to $17.87 per hour
Pipeline Technician Associate $17.38 to $21.72 per hour

Minimum Qualifications for both Worker and Associate:
• At least 18 years of age
• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
• Able to obtain a valid Class “C” Texas Drive License
• Must be able to obtain the appropriate class Commercial Driver License with endorsements within ninety days of employment

• In addition, for Associate level, one (1) year of experience in general construction maintenance, general underground utility construction maintenance, or plumbing activities
• Must obtain and maintain certification for Respiratory Protection and Confined Space Entry
• Positions in water distribution require a Class D Water Operator License from TCEQ within one (1) year of hire. Must obtain a Class C Water Distribution License from TCEQ before Class D expires.
• Positions in wastewater collection require a Class I Wastewater Collection License from TCEQ within one (1) year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain
• Experience using hand tools and power tools
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
• Experience interacting directly with customers and providing a high level of customer service
• Experience using blueprints, construction documents, underground utility drawings, map grids, or computerized mapping software
• Experience setting up temporary traffic control devices
• Computer navigation skills and familiarity with a computer work order system
• Experience operating heavy equipment such a backhoe, mini-excavator, skid steer, etc.
