Position:  Pipeline Technician Worker or Associate
Pipeline Operations is one of the largest program areas in Austin Water, comprised of five subareas working all over Austin.

Pipeline Water Operations core functions are operate, maintain, repair water distribution pipeline system; install, operate, repair and replace water valves, and fire hydrants; repair, exchange, and accuracy test water meters.

Pipeline Wastewater Operations core functions are TV inspection of sewer lines, line cleaning, emergency response and repair to Sanitary Sewer Overflows, manholes inspection, creek walking, maintenance and calibration of billing meters, as well as repair and replacement of aging wastewater infrastructure.
Position Requirements
High School,   Less than 1 Year work experience
Minimum Qualifications for the AW Pipeline Technician Worker:
At least 18 years of age
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
Must obtain the appropriate class Commercial Driver License with endorsements within ninety days of employment


The minimum qualifications for the AW Pipeline Technician Associate:
At least 18 years of age
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
One (1) year of experience in general construction maintenance, general underground utility maintenance, or plumbing activities

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License. Must be able to obtain the appropriate class Commercial Driver License with endorsements within ninety days of employment
Must obtain and maintain certification for Respiratory Protection and Confined Space Entry
Positions in water distribution require a Class D Water Operator License from TCEQwithin one (1) year of hire. Must obtain a Class C Water Distribution License from TCEQ before Class D expires
Positions in wastewater collection require a Class I Wastewater Collection License from TCEQ within one (1) year of hire
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to general construction activity
Experience interacting directly with customers and providing a high level of customer service
Basic computer navigation skills including familiarity with a computer work order system and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Experience using hand tools, power tools, and/or operating specialized heavy equipment such as a backhoe, high pressure sewer cleaning units, or vactor/flusher trucks
Experience using blueprints, construction documents, underground utility drawings, map grids, or computerized mapping software
TCEQ Class D Water license or Class I Collection license

Pay Rate is based on past work experience that is both verifiable and directly related to the position.

The Pay Range for the Worker level is $15.58 to $17.79 per hour.

The Pay Range for the Associate level is $16.48 to $20.60 per hour.
