Position: Principal Product Designer, AI Experiences

Overview

Principal Product Designer – AI Experiences. Design and lead intelligent, AI‑powered product experiences across Expedia Group’s ecosystem, delivering clear, trustworthy, and engaging interfaces.

Responsibilities
  • Translate strategic vision into high‑impact visual stories and prototypes that clarify, align, and accelerate future AI‑driven travel experiences.
  • Lead through exceptional UI and visual design craft, using high‑fidelity prototyping to explore, validate, and communicate concepts.
  • Advance next‑generation interfaces, envisioning new paradigms for conversational, multimodal, and adaptive AI‑driven experiences.
  • Design for agentic and mixed‑initiative interactions, creating visually intuitive feedback mechanisms that support uncertain or probabilistic system states.
  • Evolve Expedia’s design system to support AI‑native patterns, adaptive layouts, and intelligent interface behaviors.
  • Integrate data‑informed design principles to ensure personalization, prediction, and automation are expressed through cohesive, accessible UI systems.
  • Develop visual frameworks and pattern architectures that promote consistency, trust, and clarity across all surfaces and contexts.
  • Create high‑fidelity visual storytelling artifacts—layouts, flows, motion studies, and prototypes—to align teams and articulate design intent.
  • Foster a culture of open critique, inclusion, and curiosity centered on raising the standard of UI craft.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to align on strategy, share insights, and elevate AI‑driven interface quality.
  • Champion the traveler’s voice in every AI interaction, ensuring experiences remain transparent, empathetic, and empowering.
  • Partner with research and data teams to understand behavioral patterns, context, and intent, and translate insights into adaptive design strategies.
  • Embed responsible AI design principles that prioritize fairness, explainability, and user trust.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human‑Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Cognitive Science, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Portfolio demonstrating exceptional UI and visual design craft through modern, high‑quality digital product interfaces.
  • Expertise in defining and evolving UI patterns and interface‑level design systems, particularly for intelligent or adaptive interaction models.
  • Mastery in visual design, UI layout, component design, and high‑fidelity prototyping; strong proficiency across UX, system design, and motion fundamentals.
  • Experience designing AI‑powered interfaces with clear strategies for state management, system feedback, and multimodal interaction patterns.
  • Deep understanding of AI and conversational design tools and methods, including prototyping with LLMs, prompt engineering, and data‑informed interaction design.
  • Expert knowledge of modern design and prototyping platforms (e.g., Figma, Cursor, and others).
Compensation

Salary ranges are regionally variable (e.g., Austin: $224,000–$313,500 with potential up to $358,500; New York: $242,000–$338,500 with potential up to $387,000; other locations as listed). Pay is determined by location, budget, and individual performance.
