St. Andrew's Episcopal School is seeking a Technical Theatre teacher for a full‑time position starting August 2026 at our Upper School campus on Southwest Parkway in Austin, TX. The Upper School Technical Theatre Teacher must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Theatre or Theatre Education or a closely related field, excellent character with a passion for collaborative work, a student‑centered teaching philosophy, several years of teaching experience, and working knowledge of the technical aspects of theatre with a preferred concentration in scenic design and construction.
This full‑time position involves teaching four courses in the Technical Theatre sequence, co‑advising a small group of students, and meeting production schedule requirements. Salary will be based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Candidates who contribute to the cultural and ethnic diversity of the community are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities- Serve as the Scenic Designer and Technical Director for all Upper School theatre productions. Attend all production meetings, technical rehearsals, performances, and facilitate post‑production strikes. The production schedule includes the Upper School Musical, Upper School Acting 1‑2 Showcase, Upper School Production, the Upper School Senior Directing Project, and the Middle School Musical.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Theatre department and interface with Theatre facilities staff as necessary to support Upper School productions.
- Manage a fully‑equipped scene shop, construction equipment, tools, and theatre stock scenery and props, and coordinate with the Upper School Theatre Director to supervise contracted designers for lighting, sound, costumes, and media.
- Manage technical theatre operating budget.
- Attend all faculty and department meetings and other related events.
- Other duties, as assigned, in fulfillment of departmental and school goals.
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or a related field or higher.
Several years of teaching experience in theatre.
Working knowledge of technical aspects of theatre; preferred concentration in scenic design and construction.
Excellent character and a student‑centered teaching philosophy.
