JONATHAN CECI LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS is seeking a senior-level landscape architect to take a leading role in the technical development and documentation of complex, design-driven projects. This position is ideal for a landscape architect who enjoys making ambitious ideas buildable — someone who finds satisfaction in construction detailing, grading resolution, planting and soil design, and the disciplined production of clear, coordinated construction documents.

Our projects are layered and demanding; success in this role requires comfort with complexity, direct communication, and proactive leadership.

What You’ll Do
  • Shepherd visionary design concepts into built form
  • Take technical ownership of projects from design development through documentation
  • Lead the resolution of grading, drainage, soils, planting, and constructability challenges
  • Develop, coordinate, and review construction details, drawings, and specifications
  • Identify technical risks early and address them decisively
  • Provide clear technical direction and mentorship to junior staff
  • Coordinate with consultants and respond directly to contractor and agency questions
  • Uphold and help advance office standards for documentation quality and clarity
About us

JCLA is a young design firm in Baltimore, whose mission is to expose and distill what is extraordinary and beautiful in each unique place. We are committed to the distinctness of landscape architecture as a hybrid discipline and provide a space where the unique insights of landscape architectural practice can incubate and compound—ultimately enriching our collaboration with other professions. Though small in number, we have an outsized impact, working in diverse environments across the continental US.

Recent projects range from gardens on the Chesapeake Bay to new campus landscapes in South Carolina and Mississippi to public lands in the Great Plains and public parks throughout Baltimore. Across all project types, we aspire to create thriving plant communities, spaces that perform well for people and durable well-crafted details. Careful listening and sparking fun, engaging dialogue with clients and stakeholders are also central to our practice.
We offer employees competitive compensation and a robust benefits package. For this position, we anticipate a salary of $95,000+ based on experience plus bonus opportunities, three weeks of vacation time, employer-sponsored health insurance and retirement plans, educational and fitness reimbursements and more.

What We’re Looking For
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional experience in landscape architecture
  • Demonstrated experience leading the technical documentation of built projects
  • Strong command of grading design, planting design, soil design, and construction detailing
  • Experience writing, editing, or coordinating technical specifications
  • Comfort making clear decisions and standing behind technical solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite (Rhino and Revit experience a plus)
This Role Is a Good Fit If You…
  • Enjoy untangling complex technical problems
  • Prefer direct communication and clear expectations
  • Take pride in rigorous, well-coordinated drawings
  • Are comfortable being accountable for technical outcomes
  • Like helping others improve through clear guidance
This Role May Not Be a Good Fit If You…
  • Prefer conceptual or high-level design roles
  • Find construction documentation tedious or secondary
  • Avoid difficult conversations or decisive leadership
  • Feel overwhelmed by projects with many moving parts
