Job Summary
The Motorola CPS Programmer is responsible for configuring, programming, and maintaining Motorola radio communication systems using Customer Programming Software (CPS). This role ensures the operational reliability, proper fleet management, and accurate channel and system configurations for public safety or organizational communications. The CPS Programmer works closely with field technicians and operations staff to support the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of radio systems.
Key Responsibilities- Program Motorola radios and communication devices using CPS software according to organizational specifications and operational requirements.
- Maintain radio fleet configurations, including channel assignments, talk groups, zones, and templates.
- Update firmware, templates, and software on communication devices to ensure compatibility and functionality.
- Provide technical support to field technicians and staff in programming, troubleshooting, and configuring radios.
- Test radio devices after programming to verify operational performance and adherence to specifications.
- Maintain accurate documentation of radio configurations, programming procedures, and fleet management records.
- Assist in inventory management of communication devices and track equipment lifecycle, including upgrades or replacements.
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and public safety teams to plan and implement communication system updates or expansions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational communication standards and regulations.
- Stay current on advances in Motorola CPS software, radio systems, and industry best practices for radio communications.
- Identify opportunities to improve programming workflows, efficiency, and system reliability.
- Proven experience in programming and maintaining Motorola radio systems using CPS software.
- Knowledge of public safety, emergency communications, or organizational radio communication protocols.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and accuracy in configuring complex radio systems.
- Technical proficiency in troubleshooting electronic communication devices and software.
- Ability to maintain organized records, documentation, and fleet management logs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to support field technicians and operational teams.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple radio programming tasks efficiently.
- Familiarity with firmware updates, device templates, and fleet programming best practices.
- Technical certifications in radio communications, electronics, or IT systems are a plus.
